Chapter 327: Amelia’s Plan
Isabel wasn’t fabricating anything. She knew full well that Marcelo desperately wanted to reconcile with her, but no matter how many times he tried, Isabel had turned him down repeatedly.
Emery held onto a quiet hope that she might be able to help her son mend things with Isabel. After all, she genuinely liked Isabel and was pleased at the thought of her becoming part of the family.
When it came to family background, intellect, appearance, and overall capabilities, Isabel truly stood out. She was exceptional in every way, and Emery admired that about her.
“Mrs. Nygard, let’s not dwell on this,” Isabel said, her tone firm but polite. “I think my life is pretty good just the way it is now.”
Her words were a clear refusal, and without missing a beat, she shifted the conversation. “As for Maxwell and Patience breaking up, it’s basically the same situation as Marcelo and me. Now Maxwell wants Patience back, but she’s avoiding him completely.”
Isabel’s voice softened slightly as she continued, “Mrs. Nygard, I think the core issues within the Nygard family haven’t been resolved yet. Honestly, most girls probably wouldn’t want to marry into this family.”
She didn’t finish the sentence, but the implication was obvious. Any girl who had the chance to marry into the Nygard family would likely come from a strong background and possess admirable qualities. But if better options were available, why choose a family where a spoiled sister-in-law made life miserable? No one wants to be deliberately mistreated.
And that sister-in-law wasn’t even a true blood relative—she was adopted. That fact made the whole situation almost laughable. The entire Nygard family looked foolish.
Emery understood the subtle criticism Isabel was hinting at. Her expression darkened, and a flush of embarrassment crept over her face. She hadn’t realized that Maxwell’s breakup with Patience was connected to Gianna. Not that she was fond of Patience herself.
But from what Isabel was saying, as long as Gianna was around, no girl would want to marry any of her sons.
Who was saying that? Emery thought defensively. Her three sons were exceptional—truly outstanding men. Plenty of girls wanted to marry them. They just wanted to find the very best match.
“Sorry, Mrs. Nygard. My friend is probably here. I should go. We’ll talk next time,” Isabel said, standing up with a polite smile. She felt she had said all she needed to for now and wanted to make a graceful exit.
“Okay, see you next time,” Emery replied, forcing a small smile. What Isabel had just revealed was far more than she had known—or even suspected. She needed time to process it all.
Isabel gave another courteous goodbye and left quickly. She hadn’t actually planned to meet any friends; she was only there because Amelia had asked her to come.
