Forgotten Wife: My Ex-Husband Regrets It After I Left novel Chapter 174

Sienna’s POV

The auto went slow between lines of woods dropping their leaves. I looked out the glass, seeing Noah by the school door, waving his small hand at us before rushing in with his pals. His face was so bright, pure, full of joy as usual and seeing him like that I couldn’t help but feel some warmth in my chest.

I stayed looking until his tiny shape vanished behind the door then let out a quiet breath and leaned back on the chair. Liam got into his seat, shutting the car door softly before starting the engine.

He seems quite glad these days,I said with a tiny grin.

Liam looked at me quickly, a small grin on his face. Because you got him yesterday. He spoke about it all night long

I chuckled soft, but something in my chest shook a blend of happiness and worry. This little feeling of being near still felt fresh to me, like something that once looked hard had now turned true.

He even sketched you in his bookLiam went on, still grinning a bit, his eyes on the path. He said, Mommy enjoys cooking now she likes to tell tales and she giggles much.

I tilted my head trying to hold back a grin pulling at my lips. Did he say that?

Yeah,he said softly, I think I’m happy because the house feels warm again.

These words made me stay quiet for a bit. The home feels cozy again.

Easy words, but they poked softly like a tap that made me think of something far gone. I looked out the window watching the shadows of trees slide by as the car went slow forward.

Amusing, isn’t itI said finally trying to make the mood better. Sometimes I forget that kids can feel things grownups often miss.

Liam gave me a quick look then turned his eyes to the road. Kids have the most true way of seeing things, maybe because they have not learned how to trick their own feelings.

I just grinned a bit, saying nothing. Deep inside, I knew how real that was. I used to act happy in front of Noah, trying to fool myself that all was well, even when my heart had many breaks no one could notice. But that small boy somehow he always knew.

The auto turned onto the big road. Morning sun shone through the glass, making soft glimmers on the front panel. In that gleam, I could see our faces, mine and Liam’s next to each other, peaceful, with no fight. That simple picture was enough to make my heart feel warm!

By the wayLiam broke the silence, his tone calm but curious have you started to write again?

I looked at him, a bit shocked. How did you know

He made a fast grin. I saw your paper on the table when Noah asked me to play with cars with him.

Oh,I laughed quietly, a bit shy. It’s not done yet. Still a jumble.

That’s okay,he said softly. Your words.. have a way of telling, even without lots of words. You know that, yes?

I looked down, covering the heat that came to my face. It seemed odd I once wrote to get away from real life, but now, real life was bringing my words back alive.

Thank you,I said softly. For reminding me.

He didn’t say anything, just stared at me for a bit before looking at the street again. But from how he looked at me, I knew his words weren’t just nice he really meant them.

The air in the car felt calm, like a fresh beat we were discovering together. There weren’t sharp sides between us, just gentle talk slowly caring for something that had once been lost.

The auto went from the school yard. For some minutes, we kept silent, letting the gentle tunes from the radio fill the gap between us. Then at last, Liam talked again; his voice soft but holding a kind of meaning.

So, where are you going after this?

I looked at him. I’m seeing Liliana. It’s been a long time since I saw her last

Liam shook his head slowly. His hands on the wheel was easy, but I could see from the strong line of his jaw that something was on mind.

Liliana the one who came by when Noah was a small child?he asked, his voice soft but kind.

I shook my head. Yep, that’s her. She has a tiny art shop close to city park now I saw one of her posts online.

Hmmhe said. You two were very near back then weren’t you?

I grinned a bit. She’s like a big sister to me. In those tough times, she was the one who told me to keep writing even when I thought nothing mattered any more.

Liam gave a small nod, but I saw a spark in his eyes, maybe guilt or memory. I could not say.

I peeked back out a window, seeing the town view change into lines of little stores and hurried walkers. A weird calm sat in my chest. It seemed like my life was finding a new beat not great but more real.

Liam,I called softly after a moment.

Hmm?

I acknowledge that the relationship between us is still not entirely clear. Just wanted to say thank you for your efforts.

He looked at me with a small smile, then turned around and said I’ll say the same thing, Sienna. In response, he closed his eyes. What happened? It’s appreciated for you to give this another chance.

Keeping to myself, I stared at him from the side. He had his hands firmly planted on the wheel, with morning sunlight trailing behind him. In the past, I would observe those details with a blank gaze, but now it felt like an absence of admiration, rather

than lingering in his arms.

With a soft voice, he continued, I used to think that we were too broken for him now.. but maybe one day I’d have the courage and try again.

Gradually, I nodded with a barely audible voice. Maybe it’s just the last place we stopped.
