Sienna’s POV
There was no sound as the car stopped moving. The radio track transformed into a soothing piano piece. My fingers were intertwined on my lap, and I observed the simple progress we had made, from the stillness of our surroundings to the peaceful conversations we now have.
Liam looked at the clock on the dashboard and inquired if he wanted to drive him there.
Looking at Liam, I was slightly hesitant. “It’s fine, let’s take a cab. The office is probably within your reach.”
“I’m still here,” he said softly, his voice firm but gentle. “My sole desire is for you to safely make your way.”
I didn’t argue. He spoke with a confidence that made me feel. Perhaps I was free to accept that feeling without any guilt.
Liam nodded slightly. He had a relaxed feeling in his hands when he was driving, but the tightness of his jaw indicated that sat in thought.
Within seconds, he glanced to the side and whispered:
“Sienna, If my mother wanted to see you tonight, would you be okay with it?”
I gazed at him with a blank stare. “You mean your mother? I cautiously inquired, Mr. Wilson?”
Liam glanced back at the road. “Yes, of course,” he replied. “I’ve told her everything. About us. About what happened before.”
My chest tightened. Without any warning, I had my hands tied up against me and clutching my bag. “You disclosed everything to her?”
There was one moment where he nodded and didn’t look at me. “She wants to meet you earlier. The wait was said to make things more complicated by her.”
The air inside the car had suddenly become so thick that I felt a sense of discomfort. While staring out of the window, I couldn’t tell that it was the street in the late afternoon. Everything was just past. It was so vivid and unforgettable!
Mrs. Wilson. That name left me shivering on my chest, with only memories to spare. The lady who consistently embraced me whenever I went to their place. I felt like I was part of a family because the woman who called me “my little girl” so gently had smitten me.
I left without saying anything and goodbye, after everything. How could I possibly meet her again? It was a total fluke.
Despite his lack of activity while driving, Liam seemed to be watching me closely, possibly due to my uneven breath and shaking fingers.
“I know my mother won’t be angry,” Liam whispered softly, trying to calm the situation. “She desires to know everything from you.”
Gradually, I turned my back to him. “From me?” I muttered faintly.
“Yes. I already conveyed to her that it was my fault. A story is never complete if only one side can speak, as she pointed out. She wants to know how you viewed the entire incident.”
I took a solid, bitter bite with aching muscles. “And you spilled everything on her?” she asked. “Even-”
Liam responded with a soft and firm answer, “Yes.”
I felt a soft, painful sensation against my chest. Despite my prolonged observation of him, there was no hint of an explanation for his calmness. Only sincerity, raw and suffocating in its honesty.

“I finally asked, ‘Why do you think this is happening, Liam?“”
“Now that we’ve reached a point of rest, what comes next?”
He had a small, uncomplicated smile on his face. “Because she already knows. The weight of the past is weighing heavily on me, and I’m tired of it. The key to moving forward, Sienna, is to do it in a clean manner.”
His words left a deep impression on me. I gazed down, knee–high, trying to keep the emotions in check. I knew Liam had changed. This guy wasn’t the same person who once left in a quiet manner. Even though I was young, I couldn’t trust that life could provide me with conditional opportunities.
The vehicle was stopped by a red light.? A golden radiance illuminated his face in the afternoon, with the lines of deep–seated laughter tapping out from his jaw, a face that once felt like home.
Liam softened the phrase by stating, “She promised to cook a simple dinner to alleviate the already heavy silence. No heavy talk, she promised.”
My face shone with a small, uncertain smile, my voice was barely audible. “I don’t mean to berate you, but when I hear your words, it will not feel like much.”
After a brief moment of silent laughter, Liam managed to calm my chest. “I guess it might. My promise is that I will be there for you.”
I took a deep breath. Tonight I would now have to confront the woman who once treated me like her own daughter, and perhaps face my past.
Upon witnessing the car’s movement again, I was only able to look out of the window and whispered silently, I am uncertain what to say.
I was filled with fear, shame, and hope. Despite Mrs. Wilson’s unreserved kindness, neither she nor I had ever been fully incognito of each other. She perceived me as not being the best option for Liam, but I was just a temporary comfort to ease his pain. It was all very well.
It didn’t matter to me how she would see me, despite everything.
With a slow, still breath, I looked back at her with calmness. “Alright. I need to find something for your mother before proceeding. Or perhaps her cherished cake.”
Eventually, Liam looked at me with a gentle look. “She’ll be pleased.”
Despite feeling heavy in my chest, I smiled and said “I hope so.”
A small cafe was the first to be stopped by the car. Despite being cold outside, we were still feeling the aroma of coffee and cinnamon. I unbuckled my seatbelt and then looked towards Liam before exiting.
“Thank you for taking me,” I said.
Nodded, lightly. “Do you need me to pick you up later?”
I muttered, “but it’s fine. I will be here for a long time.”
