Caroline crouched down and gently patted Raven’s head, pointing at the long scar on his back. “The injury was too bad. He can’t do heavy work anymore. He has to retire.”

She looked at the crowd and noticed how many people seemed touched by what she said. Standing up, she spoke louder, “If a hero dog like this can’t have a normal, happy life after retiring, then what kind of people are we? These military dogs have helped and saved more people than most of us ever will! Are they just supposed to serve us and then be thrown aside? They’re living beings too!

“When I adopted Raven, the officer told me to take good care of him. He was their teammate, went through hard training, and even faced danger, just like a soldier! He deserves respect and a good life–not to be talked about badly by some mean people!”

That blond guy had been livestreaming, trying to stir up trouble.

But seeing how everyone reacted and hearing Caroline speak, he panicked and quickly turned off his stream.

When Caroline finished talking, the crowd clapped. The girl and the police officer clapped the loudest.

That blond guy slipped away quietly, but people still cursed at him as he left.

The girl and the officer both gave Caroline and Raven a big thumbs up.

Raven just sat next to Caroline, tongue out, not proud or boastful, completely unbothered. It made him look even cuter.

After everyone left, Caroline crouched again and hugged Raven tightly. “Raven, were you protecting me just now? You’re amazing!”

Raven wasn’t in the mood and pushed her away with his paw, looking a little annoyed.

But after all that, he still refused to get in the car.

With no other choice, Caroline had to carry him upstairs.

By then, the real estate agent had finished talking to his boss and called Caroline over,

Caroline decided to bring Raven too, so that he could check out the new apartment. After all, he’d be one of the owners soon.

Since Caroline’s house was priced lower than the market price, the agent’s boss decided to buy it first and sell it later when the time was right

That afternoon, they signed the contract.

Caroline’s house was in a great location, very spacious, and always popular. Its market price was about 4,6 million dollars.

Caroline had sold it for 200,000 less, so she ended up with 4,4 million dollars in her hands.

After they signed the contract, the agent’s boss paid Caroline a 50,000 deposit and said he would finish the transfer the next day

With the deposit in hand and plenty of time left, Caroline decided to take Raven shopping.

Their first stop was the nearest pet store.

She let Raven choose any treats or toys he wanted.

Raven didn’t hold back. With just a nod from Caroline, he went wild picking things.

Freeze–dried snacks, canned food, dried chicken jerky, and more.

For everything he liked, Caroline asked the staff how much they had and bought it all.

He even picked his own dog food, snifting through the bins to find his favorites

Most pet stores didn’t have huge stock, though. After visiting two or three shops, they had only filled up one dog supplies.

That’s when Caroline noticed Raven was picky.

He only liked chicken and beef flavors. Fish, like cod or salmon, he wouldn’t touch.

He only picked two cans that had salmon in them, and he didn’t seem very happy about it.

Looking at the trunk, Caroline patted Raven’s head. “Raven, being picky isn’t good. At the next store, we’ll try some new flavors, okay?”

Raven ignored her, turning his big head away.

It was clear he was really stubborn when it came to food!

At the next store, Caroline got some fish–flavored dans and treats for him.

She wanted to add some variety, in case he got bored with only chicken, beef, or venison.

Humans don’t always like to eat the same thing every day, maybe dogs don’t either.

Raven looked grumpy, drooping his face and rolling his eyes like he was saying, “I hate you.”

Caroline could only sigh. What could she do?

Balanced nutrition was important.

“Picky eaters aren’t good dogs. Let’s just get a little, okay?”

After a lot of coaxing, Raven finally looked a little happier.

When it came to toys, Caroline noticed he loved plush toys.

He liked all kinds of stuffed toys.

Even the ones Caroline thought were ugly–so ugly she could barely look at them–he treated like treasures and pulled them off the shelf himself.

Some of the plushies were tiny, hardly big enough for his mouth, but he didn’t care.

If he liked it, Caroline bought it.

She also bought more than 20 dog beds from different stores so Raven could always sleep comfortably.

Since she bought so much, the stores gave extra chew sticks and little gifts.

Then Caroline remembered that dogs need dental care too!

And if the apocalypse ever came, Raven wouldn’t be able to go to a grooming salon. So she stocked up on enough dog shampoo and toothpaste for his whole life.

She also bought five or six big hair dryers to dry his fur after baths in the future.

After all, once the apocalypse hit, Raven would mutate and grow even bigger than he is now. When extreme cold hit, if his fur got wet and didn’t dry, he could easily get sick.

She grabbed all sorts of random things, too. After visiting more than a dozen pet stores, Caroline finally felt satisfied.

Every time her car trunk got full, she would put everything into her storage space.

After seven or eight trips, she had all the supples and food Raven would ever used in the apocalypse.

Then Caroline suddenly remembered that Raven would need to go to the bathroom.

Actually, she would too.

After the apocalypse, going outside would be impossible.

Water and electricity would be gone. No more flushing toilets. They would need another solution.

That’s when Caroline noticed cat litter and pee pads in the pet store.
