Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 177

“Winifred, don’t you want to walk again? You’re still so young—there’s so much life ahead of you. I truly believe you deserve better, and that’s why I’ve never given up. I keep fighting for you.”

“I’ve found the best specialists from all over the world, using the most advanced methods available. They’re your best chance to walk again. Please, trust me—give me this chance, and give yourself a chance too.”

Leonard’s voice softened as he tried to calm her, speaking with unusual patience and gentleness. Normally, he would’ve given up by now, but once he started something, he always saw it through. Giving up just wasn’t in his nature.

“Leo, you have no idea how hard this is for me. I really have tried—I’ve pushed myself so hard to work with you. I want to hang on, for your sake as much as mine.”

“I know that if I keep trying, it’ll make you happy, and maybe you’ll see me differently, maybe you’ll even spend more time with me. Who wouldn’t want that? But right now... I just can’t take it anymore.”

Winifred broke down completely, her sobs raw and unrestrained—there was nothing forced about her grief. It was heartbreak, pure and simple.

“Let’s stop for today,” Leonard said quietly. “Go home, get some rest, and try to clear your head. I’ll come with you.”

“As for tomorrow—whether you come back or not is up to you. Think it over tonight. If you want a life like everyone else, you have to keep fighting for it. It’ll take time, yes, but I promise, all this effort won’t be for nothing. You’ll see the results, and you’ll be glad you didn’t quit.”

Seeing how shaken she was, Leonard knew she couldn’t go on today. He decided to accompany her home.

Ever since she’d gotten sick, Winifred had been given one privilege: she could call on the driver whenever she wanted, no matter the time or place. He was always there for her—sometimes even more attentive than Leonard himself.

Leonard had used every resource at his disposal to make up for what she’d lost, giving her only the best. But under the weight of responsibility, it felt less like generosity and more like obligation.

During the drive, Winifred gradually calmed down. The storm of emotion passed, leaving her quiet and subdued.

When they arrived home, Leonard didn’t leave straight away. Instead, he followed her inside, walking with her all the way to her room.
