Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 179

Leonard figured it was time to wake her up. If they waited any longer, today’s rehab session would be delayed again, and even once they got there, she’d probably dawdle before starting.

When Winifred realized it was just a maid rousing her, irritation flared. She was about to snap when she saw Leonard standing in the doorway, watching her quietly.

Her expression changed instantly.

“Leo, you’re still here with me? You didn’t leave?” she said, her voice softening. “Last night, knowing you were close by, I slept so well. Not a single nightmare. I haven’t slept that soundly in ages.”

Happiness bubbled up inside her. She couldn’t explain it, but whenever he was around, it felt like the whole world belonged to her.

“Freshen up,” Leonard said gently. “Come have lunch, and then we’ll head to the rehabilitation center together.”

“Leo, didn’t we agree yesterday?” she protested, her voice edging on a whine. “Do we really have to go? Can’t I just skip today?”

She didn’t want to face it—not the therapy, not the reminders of what she’d lost. Why should she have to confront all that the moment she opened her eyes?

“I’m sure you thought it through last night,” Leonard replied, patient but firm. “We need to go. I believe you’ll get better, Winifred. And today, I’ll be right there with you.”

He was ready for this. The past few weeks had been the hardest of his life, but if he had any free time at all, he wanted to spend it by her side, helping her push through. Only together could they see it to the end.

“Leo, will you wait for me outside?” Winifred asked quietly at the door. “You promised you’d stay. Please, don’t leave. I want to see you when I come out.”

“I gave you my word,” he said. “I’ll be right here. You have nothing to worry about.”

He walked her in, then took his place in the waiting area outside.

Winifred was led away for her therapy. It wasn’t long before Leonard heard a piercing scream echo from the rehab wing. Through the window, he could see inside; the session looked brutal, almost inhuman. The therapists pushed her hard, with no room for mercy.

It wasn’t just Winifred being dramatic—anyone would be terrified. The therapy was grueling, and for her, it was clearly almost too much to bear.
