Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 234

After a quick glance at the news, Marguerite saw that everyone was talking about it—Leonard’s name was on everyone’s lips, and not in a good way.

“So, Leonard, what’s your plan now? Have you thought this through at all? If your grandmother really forces you out of the company, do you have a backup plan? I really think we need to figure something out. We can’t just sit around and wait for the worst to happen.”

She brought it up suddenly, but the truth was, her heart ached for him. Even if the truth about his identity was out, and he wasn’t who everyone thought he was, she knew how much he’d given to this family over the years.

Mrs. Murphy was worried sick about her son. The idea of him walking away from the company—just giving up on everything he’d worked for—was almost unthinkable.

It had all happened so fast. Leonard himself hadn’t figured out what to do next. He had no idea how he was supposed to handle any of this. If his grandmother made it clear he wasn’t welcome back, what choice would he have?

“Mom,” Leonard finally said, “once she calms down, I’ll go talk to her. Whatever she wants me to do, I’ll do it. If leaving the company is what she decides, I’ll make sure everything is wrapped up neatly before I go.”

That was the least he owed her, after everything. They’d lived under the same roof for over twenty years, and in all that time, his grandmother had always treated him with nothing but kindness. Their bond was deep, even if things had gotten complicated.

“Of course,” Leonard said, “but I need a little time to figure things out. I promise, though, even if I have to leave the company, I won’t just fall to pieces.”

It was all so sudden. The truth was, he’d never been close to his father—his dad had left for another country when Leonard was just a boy, and the family had never really recovered from that. He’d never felt the absence too keenly, though; his mother had given him all the love in the world, and he’d never felt different from anyone else.

But most important of all, his grandmother had always favored him. He knew that was why Edith could never let go of her resentment.
