Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 236

How could their relationship change so drastically, just because of this? Could years of closeness really dissolve into the distance of strangers over one incident? If that was true, Leonard wasn’t sure he could accept it.

Leonard had no patience for pointless arguments. Without another word, he grabbed his phone and started to call his grandmother.

But she didn’t answer. Maybe she wasn’t feeling well—he couldn’t help but worry. After all they’d been through, would her health hold up? The phone kept ringing, but she never picked up, and his anxiety only deepened with every unanswered tone.

“Enough with the back-and-forth,” he snapped, his voice cold. “We’re here to see the elderly Mrs. Murphy. Even if, in the future, she forbids us from setting foot in this house ever again, we’d respect her wishes. But today, we need to go in. There are things that haven’t been said—things that need to be cleared up.”

Aaron’s voice rang out with authority. “Regardless, I’m still the head of this family. You have no right to keep me out. Move aside now, or don’t blame me for what happens next!”

Mrs. Murphy’s temper was infamous, and she’d finally had enough. She raised her voice, shouting at them with impatience.

The household staff knew her moods well. When she lost her temper, none of them dared challenge her—she was a force of nature, and no one wanted to be caught in her path. Even if Leonard was no longer considered the family’s rightful grandson, their bond with the elderly Mrs. Murphy was hard to sever. The maids and butler hesitated, torn between their loyalty to her and their duty to Aaron.

Leonard didn’t bother arguing any further. He simply strode past them, opened the gate, and drove his car inside. There was nothing they could do—they couldn’t catch up, nor could they find words to stop him.

Once inside, Leonard went straight to his grandmother’s room. The elderly Mrs. Murphy was asleep—no surprise, given the ordeal she’d just endured, and the restless night before. She’d only just managed to drift off when the commotion roused her.

That’s my grandson, she thought, pride swelling in her chest.

“What nonsense are you talking, you silly boy?” she chided affectionately. “You’ve called me ‘Grandma’ all these years, and now you think I’ll just stop recognizing you? There’s a mountain of work to be done at the company. If you don’t handle it, who will? Do you expect this old woman to run things herself? If I can’t trust you with it, who else can I trust?”

She glared at him, her tone brisk and matter-of-fact.

“Grandma, that’s not what I meant. I just don’t want to make things hard for you,” Leonard replied softly.
