Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 314

“Let me tell you a story. If, after you’ve heard it, you still think there’s no chance between you and my brother, then I won’t push you anymore. Just pretend I was never here today.”

Marguerite let out a long sigh. He was probably feeling a little disappointed, but deep down he knew there was nothing more to be done. After all, Hannah had made her feelings clear, and it wouldn’t be fair to pressure her any further.

Neither he nor his brother were the type to cling to something or make others uncomfortable. That just wasn’t who they were.

“My brother once dated someone—a relationship our family never talks about. It’s the one subject we all avoid. I’m sharing this with you, but please, don’t ever mention it to my brother or anyone else.”

“When I was studying abroad, my brother met a remarkable girl. They really loved each other and got along so well. But then she fell ill. For some reason, she insisted on breaking up. Hogan didn’t want to let her go, but she was determined, and in the end, he had no choice but to respect her wishes.”

“After that, my brother just couldn’t bear to stay overseas any longer, so he came home. The girl reached out to him once, but I turned her away—he’d already moved on.”

“I understood, really. Back then, they’d both said things that couldn’t be unsaid. Even when she realized later that her illness wasn’t as serious as she’d thought, it was too late. After my brother came home, there was just no going back for them.”

“If you keep holding back like this, don’t you think you’ll both end up with regrets? Maybe you’ll never get past what happened, but you won’t escape these feelings either. Maybe it’s time to let go of the past and open yourself up to someone who truly loves you.”

Marguerite paused, a little moved by his own words. He just hoped she would be, too.

“Well, I’ve said all I need to say. I just hope you’ll really think it over.”
