“Is he married?”
“I’m going to fight to bag him as my partner if he’s single! I know I said I’d focus on my career, but now I see why I could always fall back on starting a family…”
“We should ask him!”
“I would have spent another hour redoing my makeup if I knew I’d meet a hunk today!”
The women sounded far more excited than the men. They made no attempt to hide it either, their voices sharp and piercing.
“He’s not single! He’s married!” Hera muttered bitterly.
Seeing Sebastian on stage and the fanfare he drew had shaken her.
Since when had Sebastian become Baron Goldwater’s mentor? Since when had he been recognized as a prodigy with remarkable business acumen? And why had she, his wife, known nothing about it?
She glared at the man on stage, her eyes full of resentment. “How much have you kept from me?”
No wonder he had told her she would fail today and should leave. She had dismissed it as a hollow threat from an insecure man. Now she knew better.
Sebastian had become a kingmaker in this forum.
It wasn’t fear that gripped her, but the heavy weight of defeat.
Hera had always believed she controlled her life. Now everything was unraveling. It kept getting worse. All she had done was run into her old crush a few times and adopt his son out of pity, and that alone had driven her husband to leave her. And now, that same unimpressive man had turned out to be the mentor of a renowned business genius.
“What else are you hiding from me?!” Hera whispered again, her chest tightening.
She felt wronged and utterly alone. Whenever despair closed in, the strong–willed CEO mask slipped, revealing the helpless girl beneath. All her thoughts circled back to Sebastian.
Why had he hidden this from her? Was it because of Rhea? Had Sebastian ever loved her at all?
Panic clawed at her as the last question struck.
Meanwhile, her three friends were panicking for a very different reason. Their faces had drained of all color.
“H–He’s actually Baron’s mentor?!”
“We’re done for. The critique he gave us… it was spot on! He’s the real deal!”
“This isn’t just about losing Baron Inc.’s investment. We’ve offended him! I don’t even know if my company can survive in Astergrad anymore! He could blacklist me!”
Never in their lives had they imagined the man they mocked would stand at the apex.
What were they supposed to do now? They wanted to plead their case, but their knees had gone weak. They couldn’t even kneel and beg for forgiveness. Their strength had abandoned them.
Hera was their only hope.
“Ms. Bishop? You’re his wife, right? Please ask him to forgive us!”
“Yes, exactly! Forget the investment–I just want my company to survive in this city! We were blind to his brilliance. Tell him we’re sorry!”
1/2
“Please, I can’t let my company collapse. I have a family to feed!”
All three were on the verge of tears, but Hera stayed silent.
If only they had known he was such a towering figure, they would have worshiped him instead of mocked him.
