James had not expected Rhea to fight back. It caught him completely off guard.
Rhea’s mother, Dorothea, stepped in. She grabbed Rhea’s hand, trying to calm the situation. “Riri, don’t provoke him anymore. Apologize to your father, okay? We’re only doing this for your own good. You’re young and impressionable. Those men out there. just want to take advantage of you. You understand what I mean, right?”
Rhea glared at her mother with annoyance. “He’s not a predator, Mom. I learned from the last incident. He really isn’t like that, and you’ll see when he finally arrives.”
Dorothea frowned and muttered, “Why are you so stubborn? He asked you for money right away. That seems predatory to me. He even told you he has a wife. How could you fall for a married man, Riri? Don’t you see anything wrong with this?
“You said you kissed him this morning! What did you two do last night to end up in the same room? I’m telling you, Riri, there are so many predators out there who only care about you because you’re pretty and rich. They would do anything to win your
favor.
“As a young woman, you must protect your honor and dignity from these men. You can only trust someone from your social class not to be a conman. We’ve even found the right kind of guy for you-”
“Can you stop?” Rhea snapped impatiently.
She had heard this lecture far too many times.
“I’ve slept with Sebastian!” she shouted. “He called it ‘roleplaying,‘ but it’s just that he’s not ready to be my partner yet. I’ve fallen for him, and he’s the only one I want. So just stop!”
“You… slept with him? You?!”
“How could you?!”
James and Dorothea froze, struck as if by lightning.
“You loose woman! Lock her in her room! She’s grounded indefinitely!” James thundered, shaking with rage.
“Listen to your father, Riri. You’re not allowed to leave the house for now. Go to your room and reflect on yourself,” Dorothea added, her voice sharp with anger.
Rhea rebelled. “No way! He’s waiting for me!”
“Don’t speak of that bastard!” James bellowed.
If looks could kill, Rhea would have vanished already.
“I can’t wait to see what kind of loser preys on my daughter,” James growled. “Maids! Lock her in her room! I don’t care if she threatens us with her life–she’s not coming out! And silence her room! No internet, no phone, nothing from inside or out!”
The maids and Dorothea forced the protesting Rhea into her room before slamming the door shut.
The young woman pounded on the door. “This is illegal! Let me out! This is unlawful detention! Let me out!”
Everyone outside ignored her. James stormed away.
Five minutes later, he stood outside the villa’s entrance, waiting. Not long after, an Uber pulled up.
“There he is,” James muttered.
