I Fought for His Future. Now I’m Fighting for Myself novel Chapter 11

Sean ended up taking several days off. By the time he returned to the hospital, five days had already passed.

He hadn't slept a full night since, looking far worse to wear. He was too exhausted to notice the teasing glances that flickered among his colleagues.

"Don't worry, Dr. Johannson. We'll all play along with you perfectly." Sean's colleagues patted his shoulders in an exaggerated manner as they exchanged knowing looks.

He was still perplexed when Kylie walked in, steps light.

Surprisingly enough, she hadn't bothered Sean these past few days. Now, she was coming right up to him, acting as though nothing had ever happened.

"I'm glad you've come around, Sean. Here, take this." Kylie handed him a small box with a smile. "Once the others finish setting up the place, I want you to use this to propose."

After that, she turned sharply on her heel and left, not giving Sean a chance to speak.

He stood frozen for the longest time, fingers clenched tightly around the box. When he finally opened it, a diamond ring gleamed under the sunlight, so bright it almost blinded his sight.

Not far away, Sean could see the others about to finish setting up the place. A bitter laugh tore from his throat when he finally realized what was going on.

He decided to get changed into something more formal. But just as he reached the dressing room, he overheard a conversation between Kylie and someone else.

Howard Steffer, a colleague from the obstetrics and gynaecology department, said, "Falsifying a pregnancy report is a serious violation, Dr. Lundberg. You would face disciplinary action. Or worse, face legal charges."

Kylie scoffed. "What are you afraid of? No one would ever find out. Sean didn't suspect a thing, did he? So why bring it up now?"

Howard replied, "The data's already in the system. I'm just worried that…"

Sean felt his blood run cold upon hearing those words. They were talking about his child.

He had indeed wavered when Kylie came to him crying, but his compassion toward his child eventually won him over. However, Howard had come over with the abnormal fetal report right then, handing it over with pity.

Now, Sean realized it was all but a setup. Kylie had set it up just so she could have him all for herself, completely getting Charlotte out of the picture.

Oblivious to the newcomer, the two continued talking in the dressing room.
