Kylie had still been angry, but she couldn't help but break into a joyful smile when she saw Sean personally looking for her.
She said, "Just so you know, I'm still mad. But since you've come all the way to coax me, I suppose I could…"
Sean suddenly grabbed Kylie by the shoulders before she could finish her sentence, his grip tight as if trying to pierce them into her bones.
He barked, "How did Charlotte find out about us? And why would she choose to leave today of all days? Did you tell her?"
Kylie was about to cry out in pain, but her expression froze when she heard Sean. She regained her usual composure shortly after.
"Don't pin this on me, Sean. I don't know how she found out, but she was bound to leave today anyway. You couldn't make up your mind, so I helped you," she spat.
Kylie dug out her phone and pulled up her chat with Charlotte. "I'm owning up to what I did only. This is all I said to her.
"Besides, you're the one who said you only owed her favor and nothing more. Now that her leg's healed and she's got 500 thousand, isn't it about time she took the hint and left?"
Kylie met Sean's gaze squarely, a faint smile on her lips. "You should know I've got plenty of people chasing after me, Sean. You're not the only one I could have, so don't ever think you can have it both ways.
"I'll admit that you're capable. But in a place like Alphaeus Hospital, where factions are everywhere, are you sure you can rise above everyone else without any connections at all?"
Sean staggered backward, clearly stunned.
Kylie was right. It had taken Sean 20 long years for him to rise from a pitiful orphan boy to eventually being noticed by Lorenzo. But with Lorenzo's support, it took only two years to become the renowned head of neurosurgery.
And now, through his secret relationship with Kylie, even the position of deputy director seemed within reach. Could Sean really afford to give all that up so easily?
But Charlotte had been through thick and thin with him for over 20 years, earning his tuition through countless scars. Sean couldn't help but recall her ever-obedient smile.
"You'd better think this through, Sean. Do you want a bright future, or that so-called loyal lover of yours?" Kylie asked.
Her words struck him hard. He couldn't help but stumble backward, almost bumping into Lorenzo and Anna Grover, who were just returning from their evening walk.
"You're here, Sean. Why are you all standing at the door?" Anna smiled kindly as she lightly tapped Kylie on the forehead. "Are you bullying Sean again?"
