Later that evening, Barry returned to the motel to pick up his sister.
Snow was reading a book when Barry barged into their room.
“Pack up Snow,” Barry announced with a big smile on his face. “We're moving out of this cheap motel.”
Snow kept her book aside, curious about Barry's improved mood.
“We're moving? Where to?” She asked.
Barry sat on the bed, stretching his hand to caress her hair. “Remember that interview I told you I was going to?”
Snow nodded. “Yeah, sure. How was it?”
“I got hired at the spot,” Barry lied. “My new boss seemed to like me. He needed someone he could trust. Someone who could look after his house while he's away on business trips.”
Snow raised an eyebrow. “You're going to be a caretaker?”
Barry nodded, feeling embarrassed at the lies he was spilling to her. “You see, my new boss bought this expensive mansion, but he's rarely in the country to live in it. He needs someone he could trust to live inside and look after the house for him while he's away.”
Snow smiled warmly at Barry. “I'm happy you got a job, big brother. Still, I'm worried. If he's going to pay you scraps, then let me find work so I can support you. I mean, that way we would have enough to survive.”
“You don't have to worry about money,” Barry said sharply. “We're going to be living in his house. That means we have enough to eat. We can sleep in comfortable bedrooms and enjoy ourselves. I'll be paid well. I can't tell you the amount, but it's ten times more than what the Raven family pays me.”
Snow's face brightened. She had been distressed about her brother, but if he seemed happy bagging this new job, then she was happy.
“I can't wait,” she squealed and hugged him excitedly. “I knew you could do it, big brother. I prayed for you after you left for your interview. My prayers have been answered.”
Barry smiled. What would he do without his little sister?
One day, he would tell her the truth about his sudden wealth.
But for now, he needs to improve their lives and crush their enemies one by one.
Starting with The Raven family.
* * * *
Laura was disappointed Barry didn't return to work as a servant for the Raven family.
It's been two weeks now since the last time she laid eyes on him.
The other servants weren't pulling their weight around.
Because Barry did all the heavy chores, the majority of the servants had grown super lazy and idle.
Ingrid laughed mockingly. “It's my bet Barry's landlord must've kicked him out. Last time I checked, their rent was overdue. It would be far easy to convince him to come slave for us again. Hell, I don't mind paying him $1,500 if it means getting him back.”
Suddenly, Laura slammed her feet on the brakes, screeching the Range Rover to a stop.
Ingrid turned to Laura in alarm and anger. “What the hell is that all about?”
Laura was staring out her side window, her eyes bulging out.
“I-I don't believe it,” she whispered. “It can't be.”
“What?” Ingrid leaned over her daughter. “What's making you all spooked up?”
“Look at that mansion,” Laura pointed at a three-storey building with its private pool and beautiful garden. “Look at who's watering the garden.”
Ingrid squinted her eyes closely. What she saw made her catch her breath sharply.
“Is that…" She paused, her lips going dry. “Is that Barry?”
There was no mistaking it. The young man watering the beautiful exotic garden was Barry.
“My ex-husband,” Laura whispered under her breath. “What the hell is he doing here in Diamond estate?”
