I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis novel Chapter 390

390 Honeymoon: Helicopter Ride

I swam towards her at once. What’s wrong?

She threw her arms around me. Mummy, are there sharks here? What if a shark comes and eats us?

I couldn’t help laughing.

I tapped her nose lightly. Silly girl. There’s a protective net down below, Sharks can’t get through.

Really? Her eyes were still wide. But what if they break the net?

They won’t,I said. And even if one tried, the staff would spot it straight away.

She didn’t look entirely convinced. She just held onto me tighter, her little brow furrowed.

Ashton checked his watch. Time to get lunch.

Minnie practically jumped at the idea of leaving the water, nodding so fast it was a wonder her head didn’t fall off.

I was hungry too, so I called Mickey back in from where he’d drifted.

Once we’d changed into dry clothes, we stepped out of the villa and followed the boardwalk towards the sandy beach.

The waves kept rolling in, carrying soft, fine sand with them and breaking into white foam as they hit the shore.

Lunch was by the sea.

It was a private terrace that only served one table at a time, so it felt quiet and peaceful. All I could hear was the sound of the waves, deep and steady, as if the world had shrunk down to just the four of us.

The food was plentiful, though the flavours were very local. There were salads, chips, grilled fish, sandwiches, and coconut juice.

While we were eating, Ashton asked, What do you want to do this afternoon?

I swallowed a mouthful of cold coconut juice, the chill sliding down my throat and spreading through me like a soft shiver.

Didn’t you plan the schedule?I asked.

So you’d go along with whatever I’ve planned?

I nodded.

Then we’ll stick to my plan. This afternoon, the hotel staff will take the kids fishing. I’ll take you somewhere else.

I blinked at him. We’re leaving the kids behind?

Mickey and Minnie had heard him too, and they both looked unimpressed.

I don’t want to be away from Mum,Mickey said.

Yeah, don’t think you can hog her all to yourself,Minnie added.

A muscle twitched above Ashton’s brow. His voice hardened. Don’t push it. Letting you two tag along on your parentshoneymoon is already me being generous. If you keep this up, I’ll have you both sent home.

Mickey fell silent immediately, cowed by Ashton’s tone. Minnie, however, wasn’t ready to back down. Why is it just you and Mum on a honeymoon? I’m on a honeymoon with Mum too! I don’t want to be away from her!!

I couldn’t help laughing, though I was also a bit uneasy about leaving them. Why don’t we just bring them along? I said.

No.Ashton shot Minnie a fierce look. If you want a honeymoon, find yourself a husband when you’re older. This is mine and your mum’s. I’m spending the afternoon alone with her.

Minnie pouted. Big deal, having a wife.

Exactly. It is a big deal.

Alright!I cut in before it could turn into another fullblown argument. Just one afternoon. Dad and Mum will go out, and you two will go fishing. We’ll be back before it gets dark.

Minnie looked sulky but nodded reluctantly.

I turned to Ashton. So what exactly have you got planned for this afternoon??

You’ll see.

After lunch, he handed the kids over to the hotel staff and gave instructions about their usual nap time. I still felt a bit uneasy, but the staff seemed experienced, so I forced myself to let go.

Where are we going now?I asked.

Just follow me,Ashton said.

The path along the beach was lined with palm trees and thick tropical plants. The locals, with their sundarkened skin, looked rugged against the bright backdrop.

It wasn’t peak tourist season, though there were still plenty of foreign visitors. Ashton led me down a shaded path beneath the tall trees, where light filtered through the leaves and fell in broken patches across our shoulders.

The waves crashed softly nearby, steady and rhythmic.

A line of parasols stretched down the beach, with people lounging beneath them to sunbathe.

As we passed, I caught sight of a couple kissing under one of the umbrellas as if no one else existed.

The place Ashton took me to was a helicopter pad.
