Chapter 389 Honeymoon: the Island

Mickey pointed at it. Is that Sereia Cay?

We both followed his gaze. Ashton nodded. Yes.

Minnie and Mickey pressed their faces against the window, gasping every few seconds at the view.

The moment we stepped off the plane, a wall of heat hit us.

This place sat right near the equator. It was hot, humid and rainy all year round, with no real seasons and an average temperature somewhere between twentyeight and thirtytwo degrees.

I looped my arm through Ashton’s as we walked towards the pickup point. He’d planned the entire trip, so I only had to follow his lead.

Ashton quickly met up with the hotel staff. They drove us along the coastline, the turquoise sea glittering like a giant gemstone beside the road. The water was so clear that even from the car, I could see the sand beneath the

waves.

It didn’t take long before the car stopped by the beach.

I glanced around and saw no hotel in sight. Where are we actually staying?I asked.

Ashton looked out towards the sea with a smile. You’ll see.

The ocean stretched endlessly ahead. A wooden boardwalk extended from the shore out into the water, lined with houses the colour of warm wood, perched on stilts like little boats anchored in place.

The hotel staff led us down the boardwalk and stopped in front of one of the houses. He unlocked the door and said, This is your room.

I stared, stunned for a second.

Then I turned to Ashton, wideeyed. We’re staying here for the whole trip?

He nodded. What do you think?

I rushed inside, turning in a circle to take everything in. The house was surrounded by the sea on all sides, the air thick with the salty scent of the ocean. Through the windows, the water stretched out to the horizon, at the same

level as the house itself.

Sea and sky melted into one endless blue, and it felt like we were floating in the middle of it, alone in the world.

My voice trembled a little from excitement. This is incredible. I love it.

Minnie and Mickey were just as thrilled, running back and forth through the rooms.

Wow, it’s so pretty,Mickey shouted. We’re actually sleeping on the sea!

Minnie gave a solemn nod. Not bad. Daddy’s taste is surprisingly decent for once. Oh, there’s a pool downstairs, and look, there’s even a ladder straight into the sea.

Then she frowned a little, wagging a finger at her brother. Remember to wear a life jacket before you go down!

Mickey rolled his eyes at her bigsister tone, but he didn’t argue.

The master bedroom had been set up like a classic honeymoon suite.

The kingsized bed was covered in rose petals arranged in a heart shape, filling the air with a rich, sweet scent.

I threw myself onto it, not thinking about anything except how good it would feel to have a proper nap.

After a short sleep, Ashton and I stepped out onto the balcony and spotted Minnie and Mickey playing on the deck outside.

The deck was built right over the water. Beside it, there was a netted trampoline stretched across a wooden frame. Minnie was already bouncing on it with wild energy, the greenblue sea shimmering beneath her feet.

Mickey hesitated at first, hovering at the edge. But after watching his sister laugh herself silly, he clenched his fists, squeezed his eyes shut and jumped. When he realised there was nothing scary about it, he started bouncing even harder than Minnie.

Their bright laughter carried across the sea. I walked over to the railing and called out, Want to get in the water?

They’d clearly been waiting for us to suggest it. Both nodded eagerly.

I pointed at the ladder that led straight down into the sea. Let’s go over there.

I helped them into their life jackets while Ashton pulled on his own.

There was a safety line attached to the ladder, a rope that clipped to our jackets so no one could drift out too far with the current.

We got the kids into the water first, carefully and slowly, before climbing down after them one by one.

The water was cool against my skin but it didn’t dampen the excitement at all.

Mickey could swim and splashed around confidently. Minnie couldn’t, so she kicked and flailed her arms like a determined little frog. The life jacket kept her steady, and every time the water splashed against her face, she burst into helpless giggles.

I lasted far less time than the two of them. After a while I simply floated on my back, letting the soft water hold me as it rose and fell beneath me.

Everywhere I looked was a brilliant, endless blue. Lying there, weightless, I felt entirely at ease.
