I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 164

“I see him. Who’s that with him? Did he say?”

Horace looked down at me, his expression a little strange.

“I don’t know her. She’s a beautiful woman, though. Her relationship with Uncle Julian must be complicated. She walked into the room and just burst into tears. Then she went right up to him and slapped him across the face.”

My jaw dropped. “That intense? What happened next? How did Uncle Julian react?”

“With that thick beard of his, it was hard to tell what he was thinking, but they definitely know each other well. Uncle Julian was calm the whole time. He just told me to stay here while they went outside to talk.”

I thoughtfully watched the man and woman under the lamppost, my mind racing to figure out who she could be. Uncle Julian didn’t retaliate, which could mean… was this my long-lost aunt? But how would she have known which hospital he was in? I had kept his location a secret from my grandfather’s side of the family. Had Uncle Julian contacted her?

Well, whatever. It wasn’t important. As long as Uncle Julian was happy. Right now, no one was more miserable than me. I couldn’t get a divorce, and I had no money.

I couldn’t help but sigh. Horace immediately looked at me, his senses sharp. “What’s wrong? Something on your mind?”

I nodded honestly. “Yeah, something’s bothering me. But I’ll figure it out soon.”

I didn’t want to get into the details of my situation with Steven. It was better if the two of them stayed out of each other’s lives this time around. I couldn’t let Horace get drawn into danger again because of me.

Horace’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn’t press the issue. “Zephyra, want to go for a ride?”

I looked at him, and he pulled a key from his pocket, a wide grin spreading across his face. “You haven’t had dinner yet, right? Come on, I’ll take you for your favorite spicy crawfish.”

It was autumn, the best season for crawfish.

My eyes lit up, and my mood instantly improved. My mouth started to water. “Deal! You have no idea how much I’ve been craving them!”

In my past life, Steven never ate that kind of food, so I didn’t either. Later, when I had stomach cancer, anything spicy and greasy was off-limits. Just the thought of it now was making me ravenous.

He gently tapped my head twice and took my hand, pulling me toward the door. His warm voice was tinged with laughter.

I was a little surprised. That meant he’d bought it in the last few weeks. In my past life, I didn’t remember him owning a bike like this. Was it just my imagination, or had Horace changed too? He seemed more carefree, more spontaneous.

Could my rebirth have affected him as well?

I watched Horace put on his own helmet. It covered most of his face, giving him a sharp, edgy look that was incredibly cool. It was a side of him I’d never seen before, and I couldn’t help but smile.

“You know, if you wore a leather jacket or something, you’d look absolutely badass.”

He raised an eyebrow and leaned in close, his voice a low murmur.

“Not badass enough now?”
