I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 177

Steven dragged me into Myron’s office, where the soundproofing was good and we could be alone. He slammed a handful of photos onto the desk, a cold, mocking smile on his lips.

“Zephyra, are you that desperate for a divorce? You’re going to use these photos to accuse me of infidelity?”

I glanced at the photos. It was the one of Verna and me in the misleading kiss. I had only sent it to Calvin and Noah.

I raised an eyebrow and looked at Steven. There was a bandage on his head, and his handsome face was pale, but his expression was dark and stormy. His cold eyes were fixed on me. He was clearly here to hold me accountable. He wouldn’t even discuss it in my own office, probably afraid that the walls were too thin and word would get out about Verna.

“If you had just cooperated with a negotiated divorce, I wouldn’t have had to resort to this. Who gave you these? Noah?”

“Noah?” Steven frowned, his voice deepening. “He’s your lawyer?”

Before I could answer, a shocked, almost horrified voice cut in. “Holy shit, Noah is Zephyra’s lawyer?!”

Myron burst out of the inner office, his face a mixture of disbelief and awe as he looked at me.

“Zephyra, you are one hell of a woman. Do you have any idea who Noah is? He’s been Steven’s arch-rival since they were kids! And you hired him as your divorce lawyer? You really are determined to get rid of Steven.”

So, Noah really was Steven’s arch-rival. That meant he was one of the Brooks family heirs. Rumor had it that the men of the Brooks family were ruthless, especially the old patriarch. He had supposedly married a wealthy heiress, schemed to take over her family’s fortune, drove his first wife to her death, and then remarried, only to spend his days womanizing and fathering countless illegitimate children.

A shiver went down my spine, but then I reminded myself that I wasn’t his enemy; I was just his client.

Then, he turned to Steven. “Steven, if that Brooks kid dared to take a case against you, he must be confident. Did he make some kind of demand? You can’t just give in. There’s only one Zephyra, and she’s more important than anything.”

“But now that I think about it, your company was hit by a hacker yesterday. Every computer screen had the word ‘scumbag’ on it. Could that have been the Brooks family’s work too? No, that can’t be right. When did they get that good? Just a little while ago, they couldn’t touch you.”

My heart skipped a beat. A hacker? Scumbag? Was this some kind of corporate espionage? Was it definitely directed at Steven? Could it have been meant for someone else? Noah wouldn’t go that far for me, would he? And neither Horace nor Rachel knew how to hack.

Steven shot him a death glare.
