I didn’t hear Steven’s answer. I couldn’t read his expression; he just stared at me coldly.
“You have three days to do whatever you want. After that, I expect to see you at the villa.”
So, that was the real reason he had forced me to come here. To warn me that his patience was running out.
A rebellious, cold smile touched my lips. I didn't say a word. I just straightened my clothes and walked out of his office. The buttons on my blouse were broken, but luckily, my coat covered the damage.
But my hair was a mess, my lips were swollen, and there were even smudges of Steven’s blood on my cheek. Anyone could see that something had happened.
Gordon’s expression was the most composed, as if he had expected this. But when he saw that I was unharmed, he seemed to realize something and rushed into the office.
Even from a distance, I could hear his shocked voice. “Mr. Lancaster, your head… I’ll call an ambulance!”
“Weren’t you just discussing the collaboration with Mrs. Lancaster? How did you get so badly injured? We need to get you to a hospital. You have that international trip coming up…”
I didn’t hear the rest.
So, Steven was going abroad again.
In my past life, he had taken two long trips around this time. On the first, which lasted two weeks, he realized he was in love with Verna. On the second, he began his aggressive pursuit of her.
Hah.
I let out a sarcastic laugh. “Bastard.”
In this life, he was already obsessed with Verna, yet he was still trying to force me back to his side. He was even worse than he had been in my past life. He deserved to be drawn and quartered.
The next day, I met Noah as planned. To my surprise, he actually showed up. It seemed he really wasn’t afraid of Steven.
And he was devastatingly handsome, with deep-set, almost mixed-race features, tall and slender, with the air of a noble prince.
Unfortunately, I was in too foul a mood to appreciate a handsome man. I got straight to the point.
Noah asked to see my evidence. All I could show him were the strategically angled photos I had taken of the "affair." I had nothing else.
I expected him to tell me, like everyone else, that it was a hopeless case. But to my surprise, Noah smiled, his voice low and relaxed.
Still, I couldn’t help but eye Noah suspiciously. “You’re being very secretive about your plan. You’re not planning on kidnapping me to threaten Steven, are you?”
That would explain the fifty-fifty odds and would be a sure way to get paid.
Noah blinked, as if he hadn’t expected me to think of that. Then, he let out a soft laugh.
“Rest assured, Ms. Jones. I’m a lawyer, not a thug. I have no intention of causing you any harm.”
I finally relaxed and extended my hand to him with a smile. “Then it’s a pleasure doing business with you. I’ll be waiting for your good news.”
I never imagined Noah would work so quickly. Steven didn’t even last until the next day. He didn’t even last until the end of the workday. He stormed into my office, radiating an icy fury, and in front of everyone, dragged me out.
