I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 21

The funny thing was, Steven was the one who had arranged for her to go abroad. He even went to a business dinner and drank heavily to secure the opportunity. When he came home that night, he complained about his stomach hurting, and I, feeling sorry for him, stayed up all night taking care of him.

Steven and I were both fools in love. The only difference was that I was a fool for him, and he was a fool for someone else.

Lost in my thoughts, I heard the doctor’s cheerful voice. “Alright, I’ve got it all down. Don’t worry. Bye–bye.”

A moment later, the office door opened, and she stepped out. When she saw me, her expression changed instantly. “Watch out!”

Before I could look down, a searing pain shot through my right hand.

Hot water had spilled over the edge. I winced, the pain sharp and immediate.

She immediately grabbed my hand and held it under a stream of cool water, her brow furrowed in concern.

“You can’t let your mind wander when you’re handling hot water. It’s very dangerous.”

“Thankfully, it doesn’t look too bad. I have some burn cream in my office. I’ll put some on for you. It might feel a bit warm at first, but it should be much better by morning.”

I stared at her, stunned. Her voice was as gentle as her actions. My gaze drifted down to her name tag: Verna Garcia.

She was as beautiful as her name suggested, radiating kindness to everyone around her.

No wonder Steven had been so devoted to her his entire life, willing to give up everything to help her.

An image of their engagement from my past life flashed through my mind. Steven had looked at her with such deep affection, and Verna had seemed so happy. I suppose they finally got their happy ending, even if the path was a rocky one.

“There, the redness is already going down,” Verna’s gentle voice pulled me back to the present. I looked into her pure, pretty face as she smiled. “Wait here a moment. I’ll go get the cream for you.”

I watched her, my voice filled with gratitude. “Thank you, doctor.”

Chapter 21 1

Verna was, in a sense, my rival, but in my past life, I had never had the heart to go against her. I couldn’t even remember her name, only her beautiful face.
