I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 92

His grandfather had a strict habit of reading the current day’s paper, a habit Steven had inherited.

Steven raised an eyebrow and put the paper down. “If I don’t keep myself busy, you’ll drag me into a game of chess.” He stood, taking off his jacket and rolling up his sleeves as he walked toward us. “You’re a sore loser, and I don’t want to play.”

“Hey, you little brat!” his grandfather exclaimed, raising his cane threateningly. Steven easily dodged the playful swing. The old man grumbled, but his eyes were shining with undisguised delight.

I watched them, a genuine smile on my face. It was wonderful to see his grandfather so happy with his grandson. And Steven was different here. Back at his parents’ house, he was a cold statue, but here, he seemed more human.

Dinner was soon served, a lavish spread on the dining room table.

The butler smiled. “The Master knew you were coming and had the kitchen prepare all your favorites, Young Master, Young Madam. Please, take a seat.”

We sat down, but his grandfather, still holding a grudge from the missed cane swing, suddenly smacked Steven’s hand with his chopsticks. “Tell me,” he demanded, “did you get into trouble?”

The question came out of nowhere, leaving me baffled. Steven, however, remained unfazed. He picked up a shrimp, expertly peeled it, and placed it on his grandfather’s plate. “You should listen to less gossip.”

“Gossip?” the old man snorted. “I asked more than one person about what happened at that banquet. I know everything. What do you have to say for yourself?”

Banquet? My eyebrows shot up as I realized what they were talking about. No wonder he had summoned me for dinner. He knew about the stunt I pulled with the “proof of virginity,” the one that sent Mary into a rage. So tonight was Steven’s trial by fire.

His grandfather looked perplexed. “Then why?”

“I’m not interested in her body type.” Steven’s eyes raked over me dismissively. “She’s flat as a board. What’s there for a man to be attracted to?”

My face flushed with anger. I knew he didn’t touch me because he didn’t love me, but how dare he attack my body! I had a great figure; he just hadn’t had the pleasure of discovering it in this life.

“What nonsense!” his grandfather defended me. “All those curvy women out there don’t belong to you! You’d better not be crossing any lines, or even if Zephyra forgives you, I’ll personally tan your hide!”
