I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 98

Finally, his incessant pounding wore through my patience. I quickly rinsed off, wrapped myself in a towel, and yanked the door open. “Steven, you bastard! What is your problem? Are you looking for a fight?!”

Before I could say more, he shoved past me, stumbled to the shower, and turned the knob all the way to cold, letting the icy water drench him.

I stood there, completely baffled. “What are you doing?”

He wiped the water from his face, his voice rough and strained. “Get out.”

My jaw tightened. “Excuse me? You were just in here. Now I’m showering! If you need another one, go find another bathroom!”

He turned to look at me, and my heart lurched. His usually pale, handsome face was flushed a deep red, and his dark eyes were bloodshot. Something was very wrong. “You look…”

Suddenly, it all clicked into place: his grandfather’s knowing glances, his parting words about seizing the opportunity. My blood ran cold.

Did his grandfather drug him?

Oh god. My worst fear was coming true.

I backed away slowly. “I’m… I’m going to call someone to take you to the hospital.” I scrambled to the bedroom door and tried to open it, but it was locked from the outside. Panic set in. I started banging on the door. “Grandfather! Grandfather, Steven isn’t feeling well! I’m not feeling well either! Please, open the door! Let us out!”

I yelled several more times, but there was no response. My heart sank. Of course. The old man had planned this meticulously. He wasn’t going to interfere.

I was shocked. “What? How could you think that? I swear on my life, it wasn’t me!”

“Hah.” A cold, humorless laugh escaped his lips. “Still acting? I heard you telling the old man you were going to ‘work hard’ and ‘seize the opportunity’ to have a child with me. Did you think I didn’t hear?”

My heart sank. So he’d overheard. No wonder he’d been so wary of me. “That was… I was just saying that for his sake! It wasn’t real!”

But before I could finish, he lunged, grabbing my waist and tackling me onto the bed behind us. His mouth crashed down on mine.

It was a brutal, punishing kiss. Just as I started to resist, he pulled back, his breath coming in ragged gasps. “Zephyra, you’re so desperate, I suppose it’s my fault for neglecting you. It makes me look like I can’t satisfy my own wife.” His fingers dug into my jaw, his eyes like a wolf’s staring down its prey. “Tonight, I’ll give you what you want. And you’d better take it without a single tear.”
