Manuela’s POV
Between Flavian's father's visit on Saturday and Sunday lunch at Alexander and Catherine's house, I ended up not calling my brother, but I wanted to hear from Cam about what was happening. I took advantage of my lunch break to do so.
"Hi, little Manu! How are you, my sister?" Cam answered with his usual affectionate tone. No matter what he was doing or what mood he was in, he always greeted me that way.
"I'm good. And how's my favorite brother?" He laughed - since childhood, I'd always called him my favorite brother, and he loved it. He really was my favorite.
"I'm good. Missing you so much that I'm coming to visit you this weekend. Can I stay at your place?" I found it strange because I had spent a year in this city and he couldn't come to see me, but now, just days after visiting me, he was planning another visit.
"You and Olivia are always welcome to stay at my house. I'm happy you're coming to see me, but is there any special reason?" We had always been frank and direct with each other, so I didn't beat around the bush.
"Yes, I need to talk to you about the company, and I really do miss you." Then I realized something was indeed changing.
"That's exactly what I wanted to ask you about. Flavian's father came to visit us - you know he has a huge protein-based food company, and he's interested in our family's company," I said.
"Yes, he made us an offer, but I refused. Are you interested by any chance?"
"No, if you refused, it's because it wasn't good for our company. I trust you. But he wants to meet you."
"Hmm, that's fine with me, but I prefer not to associate with him. I'd like the company to stay just with us."
"I agree with you. But what I want to know is why Flavian's father said I own half of the company and half of the farm, and that Dad isn't one of the business partners."
"That's what I want to talk to you about, but I want to do it in person. We had to change some things here because father is divorcing your mother."
"So it's true, about the company?"
"Yes, Manu, it's true. Father wanted to protect the assets. You know Julian and your mother - she would have taken everything she could from father and destroyed the company. Does that bother you?"
"It's not that it bothers me, I was just caught off guard and I don't understand what's happening. Besides, Flavian's father thinks our company is much bigger than it actually is."
"Sister, you need to get involved in the business - I always tell you this. Things are not what you think. Our company is a very prosperous business, Manu."
"Cam, I don't care about the business. As far as I'm concerned, I could have transferred everything to your name already. What worries me is what my mother will do to me when she finds out I own half of everything." That was my real fear -if things were bad before, they would get much worse then.
"You're not transferring anything to my name, Manu. I just manage your share, but it's yours. And as for your mother, neither Flavian nor I will let her come near you."
"I'm scared, Cam." I was actually terrified. "Julian showed up here on Friday with those two good-for-nothing friends of his and cornered me at the office door."
"What did that animal do to you?" I could hear the anger in my brother's voice.
"Fortunately, Flavian arrived, and he couldn't do anything, but he said he had come to get me," I explained. "I live in fear. I can't even walk down the street alone because I'm afraid my mother will show up, attack me, forcefully take me away, and make me marry Calvin's son. I don't want to live like this, afraid of my own mother."
"Manu, calm down. I promise we'll solve this. Trust me," Cam asked, and I did trust him, but I couldn't see how to resolve this.
