Cam’s POV
It had been three days since Olivia and I had returned to our city, and I still hadn't found time to go to that storage facility to see what that woman who died had kept there. I needed to find time for this, but it was difficult, mainly because my father had his mind on the divorce, since the hearing had been scheduled and Rita showed up here making a scene when they wouldn't let her in, following my orders. And my father was temporarily living with me, as I had convinced him not to go to the farm and to move only after getting rid of Rita.
However, I wasn't focusing on work either, as my mind was on all this investigation business and I was very worried about my sister.
"You know what, as Oli says, let's make it happen," I said to myself as I decided to check out The Box.
I called my secretary and asked her to reschedule all my appointments, which she did quickly. I cleared all pending matters from my desk and told Oli to wait for me as we would go to that storage facility. She was as eager as I was. When I got home, she was already waiting for me at the gate.
The trip to the location was quick; in about an hour and a half, I parked the car in front of a gigantic warehouse with a small sign on the facade where the establishment's name was written in large block letters.
"Do you think we'll find answers here, Oli?" I looked at my wife somewhat uncertainly.
"We'll find out. But I have a good feeling about this," she said, and placed her hand over mine with a small smile.
We identified ourselves at reception, and the woman asked for the receipt, an ID, and the key. I presented everything, and she looked at me as if sizing me up, searched on the computer, and looked at me again.
"How did you get the key?" she asked, peering at me over her lime-green rimmed glasses.
"Rose, the storage unit owner, gave me the key before she passed away." It wasn't entirely a lie; she had died and her sister got the key, but then gave it to us. It didn’t matter that she didn’t know— there was no need for the receptionist to know that.
"Were you relatives?" The woman was asking too many questions.
"We were close," I limited myself to saying.
"I can't give you access; the key might have been stolen. You need to be the owner or a relative," the woman explained and returned the documents and key. I was ready to explode at her, but Oli put her hand on my arm.
"You're new here, aren't you?" Oli asked.
"I've been here for two years, ma'am," the woman replied, looking bored.
"Wow, I hadn't realized it had been so long since I came here," Oli said naturally and took out a key, a receipt, and an ID from her purse and handed them to the woman. "I want to see my storage unit. He's my husband."
The woman looked at both of us and checked the documents that Olivia handed her. She did something on the computer and returned everything.
"Do you know the location of your storage unit?" The woman asked and opened the automatic gate.
"Yes, I do, thank you. Shall we, dear?" Olivia pulled my arm. "Ah, I'll need one of the carts." The woman grabbed a key and handed it to Olivia.
