Flavian’s POV

I returned to the police station with Olivia. We would open the boxes she brought there since Manu was at home. But I was still furious about what happened with my little one, and irritated that she couldn't understand that getting married would solve so many things.

"You're upset because Manu didn't agree to marry you, right?" Olivia asked.

"Yeah, I am. Is it that hard for her to understand?" I asked, though I wasn't really expecting an answer.

"Look, Flavian, your idea is good, but you did it the wrong way. A woman expects to be proposed to romantically, with the guy saying he wants to marry her because he wants to spend the rest of his life with her, because she's the love of his life, not because he wants to prevent her crazy mother from marrying her off to someone else," Olivia laughed. "You men are too pragmatic. We women like romance."

"I love her, Olivia, that should be enough," I complained.

"And it is. It's so enough that she's living with you. But you need to give her the right reasons to get married, not because it will solve problems." Olivia was right, but how would I convince that stubborn little one?

I parked at the police station and got the boxes. I went with Olivia to my office and handed her one box while keeping the other. I started searching. There were some objects that seemed useless to me. Some folders with documents from Manu's family company that caught my attention, a folder with bank account documents, and the statement showed there was good money in that account. I showed it to Olivia.

"This isn't the bank we have in our city, but there's one in the city where we got these things, probably from there," Olivia explained.

I looked at more objects and found nothing. I picked up an old photo album and started looking through it. It was organized with names, places, and dates. In all the photos were the deceased maid and this chubby person, whom the deceased's sister had mentioned was the friend. The photos were of terrible quality, but this chubby had something familiar about her, I just couldn't figure out what.

"I found it, Flavian!" Olivia held a folder in her hands. "The torn pages from the diary."

"Finally!" I looked at Olivia with satisfaction. "Let's read."

We set aside the rest of the objects and began reading those pages. As I read, I became more and more shocked by the story they told. When we finished reading, Olivia and I were speechless.

"How horrible, Flavian!" Olivia had tears in her eyes. "How can someone be so evil?"

"Olivia, I've seen so many things that this doesn't even surprise me, but it drives me crazy just thinking about how this will impact Manu," I replied, already thinking about how Manu would react when she discovered everything written there.

"Yes, it's clear here that the daughter my mother-in-law was expecting died during childbirth. So Manu isn't Cam's sister, since Rita wasn't even pregnant." Olivia shook her head.

"Manu must be the child that the nurse told Breno about, the one whose mother keeps saying was stolen. God, this will be devastating for her." I didn't know what to do. "I'm already regretting digging into this story."

"Manu can't know, Flavian, at least not before we get the DNA results and talk to her father," Olivia was right. But it would be hell to hide this from her any longer.

"I don't know, Olivia. I almost lost Manu once for hiding things from her. I can't hide this, it's too serious," I replied.

"Let's call Cam and ask his opinion, I think it's important." Olivia was right. I agreed, and she made the video call.

"Hi, Oli, are you still with my sister?" Cam answered, but seemed to be paying attention to something else.

"Cam, drop what you're doing and look at me. Is anyone there with you?" Olivia was anxious.

"No, Oli, I'm alone. Oh, hi, Flavian. How's Manu?" Cam took his eyes off the papers he was looking at.

"She's at home with Mel. She's doing okay, considering what that woman did to her today," I replied.

"Cam, we found the missing diary pages and a bunch of other things," Olivia rushed to say.
