Manuela’s POV
I was lost in a sea of doubts and confused feelings, but of one thing I had no doubt - the love I had for these two men sitting beside me was genuine and meant more to me than blood ties. Whatever happened, in my heart they would always be my father and brother.
"I can't not be your daughter!" I clung to that embrace as if I were drowning and it was my lifeline.
I surrendered myself to their arms in profuse tears and felt Cam join our embrace, reflecting the same emotion as us both. There was no room for words in that hug. We let the tears fall freely - tears that said so much, that told me they felt the same fear as I did, fear that our bond would be destroyed, broken and forgotten, simply because we didn't share biological markers, simply because of DNA in our cellular structure.
But the love I feel for them was engraved in my soul, transcended the physical aspect of my existence. I might not have these two's DNA markers, but every cell in my body held the memory of affection, hugs, and moments shared with them.
After what seemed like a lifetime, my father, somewhat calmer, released his arms from around me to take my face in his hands, wiped away the tear stains, and gave me a smile - that love-filled smile he gave me when he called me daughter.
"Daughter! You will always be my daughter, daughter of my soul, of my heart! Nothing in this world can change that - you are Manuela Blanco, you are my beloved daughter!" My father kissed my forehead.
"And don't even think you'll stop being my sister! You're my little doll." I laughed at Cam recalling the nickname he called me in childhood, little doll - he called me that until I became a teenager and thought that nickname didn't suit a young lady.
"I love you both! You are my family. But I also need to know the truth. I need to know if that monster is my mother." I decided it wasn't time to be weak.
"We're waiting for DNA results," Olivia said, and I looked at her, not understanding.
"My God, that's why you got into it with Rita yesterday." My father looked at Olivia with a small smile returning to his face.
"What do you mean got into it with Rita?" I asked, dumbfounded.
"Oh, this is funny," Cam sniffled and handed me his phone. "Press play."
I watched the video Cam showed me, unsure whether to laugh or be concerned. Olivia had nearly torn Rita's neck off and ended up raising her fists, displaying tufts of hair in her hands like trophies.
"I'm just sorry she came to take it out on you, but we needed her hair," Olivia looked at me apologetically.
"She didn't come to take anything out on me. She always attacks me, Olivia, you know that better than anyone. But that ended today, anyway. I told her not to contact me anymore, and next time I'll let Flavian arrest her," I explained.
"Finally!" Flavian exhaled and slumped into the armchair.
"But how did you get my sample?" I looked at Flavian.
