Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 118

“…”

Amelia caught sight of Clive and Kristen strolling over, maybe thirty feet away. She narrowed her eyes, sizing them up.

Clive really did look good in a suit—broad shoulders, slim waist, long legs. At six-two, he wore that tailored jacket like it was made just for him, looking every inch the perfect gentleman as he walked over.

Kristen, tall and willowy, floated at his side, all delicate sweetness. The hem of her dress kept brushing against his pants, swaying a little too close for comfort.

Anyone watching could tell there was something going on between those two.

Amelia’s gaze turned cold.

As they got closer, she noticed Kristen’s eyes were rimmed red, like she’d just been crying.

Their eyes met, and Kristen shrank behind Clive, maybe on purpose, maybe not—like she was terrified of Amelia.

Clive noticed right away. He frowned and shifted closer to Kristen, protective and obvious about it.

Amelia said nothing. She flexed the hand she’d used to slap Lena, thinking idly that if Kristen and Clive would just stand a little closer, she could probably slap them both at once.

“Kristen, Clive, you’re finally here!” Lena rushed over to Kristen like she’d found her savior, hands pressed to her swollen cheek, tears streaming down her face. “Ms. Sadinton threatened to fire us! I tried to talk back, and she just hit me! Clive, look at my face!”

She turned so they could see the five bright red marks across her skin.

Clive’s expression darkened.

She didn’t even care about explaining, but she wasn’t about to just let this slide.

Clive glanced at the angry red scratch on her arm, where Lena had clawed out a chunk of skin. Blood was still oozing from it.

He winced, about to say something.

But Kristen jumped in first, face full of sympathy. “I’m really sorry, Amelia. I’ll apologize for Lena. She just loves those sharp nails—she’s scratched me before too, just grabbing my arm. She honestly didn’t mean it.”

Clive didn’t know much about manicures, but hearing Kristen’s explanation, he looked down at Lena’s fingers—long, sharp, definitely capable of doing damage.

Maybe Lena had scratched Amelia by accident. But that slap from Amelia? He’d seen it clear as day. That was no accident. She meant it.
