Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 128

Kristen was facing the camera, her features captured crystal clear. Thankfully, only about a third of her profile showed, and since she was laughing, it would be hard for strangers to recognize her.

But that was only true for people who didn’t know Clive. Anyone who did would spot him in the picture right away.

Scrolling down, the comment section was flooded with congratulations and well wishes, as if people were celebrating a perfect couple.

Clive’s eyes went cold.

He called Aiden. “Get rid of that trending topic online by tomorrow. Make sure Amelia never sees it.”

Right now, he needed Amelia to focus completely on the research she was doing for him.

He hung up, barely keeping his frustration in check, and called Kristen.

That photo was only on Kristen’s phone. There was no reason it should suddenly show up online.

He thought back to that day at the aquarium, when a staff member had handled Kristen’s phone for a bit. The photo must have gotten out then.

The phone rang twice before Kristen picked up.

“Clive, what’s with the late-night call? Or is Penny missing me?” Kristen’s voice was as gentle as ever.

“What’s going on with that trending post?” Clive’s voice was tense. “Did you give our photo to someone at the aquarium?”

“What photo?” Kristen sounded completely lost. “Let me check online.”

Clive forced himself to wait for her explanation.

But instead of a reply, all he heard was a sudden scream.

“Ah!”

“Kristen?” Clive’s heart jumped. He called her name twice more. “Kristen? Say something. What happened?”

No answer.

Right then, a video call request popped up on her computer. It was Ms. Anderson.

Amelia took a breath, fixed her expression, and answered.

“Ms. Anderson, it’s been a while. How have you been?”

Ms. Anderson had been her mentor for a national research project back when Amelia was at Baybridge University. She might not have as many published books as Dr. Borgen, the giant of the medical world, but Ms. Anderson was a respected expert in neurology.

Earlier that morning, while organizing her notes, Amelia had run into a tricky neurology problem. Ms. Anderson was the first person who came to mind.

So she’d asked Rachel to help contact Ms. Anderson’s assistant to see if they could set up a meeting. Amelia figured she’d have to wait a few days, since Ms. Anderson was always busy with multiple research projects. But as soon as the professor heard Amelia was reaching out, she immediately made time for her, even setting aside an hour before bed.

They got straight to the point. After half an hour of discussion, Ms. Anderson’s insights helped Amelia see things in a new light.

“Ms. Anderson, thank you so much. Once I get through this busy spell, dinner’s on me—whenever you’re free.”
