Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 234

“Amelia!” Clive’s voice cracked with panic as he rushed forward.

But Ryan was faster. He grabbed Amelia’s arm and yanked her into his arms, shielding her. In the same breath, he lashed out, kicking Liliana hard in the chest.

Even though he held back, Liliana flew back a couple of meters and hit the floor with a sickening thud, spitting up blood.

Amelia glanced down at the hand clamped around her arm. Ryan’s skin was pale, the veins on his hand standing out sharply.

He felt her eyes on him but didn’t look back. He let go, slow and careful, his chest rising and falling under his shirt. There was something dark and violent simmering in his eyes, but he forced it down.

Not now.

He couldn’t let her see that side of him. It would scare her.

Amelia watched as Liliana struggled up from the floor, her expression wild, her eyes glassy and lost. Amelia frowned, realizing right away that this wasn’t just some simple meltdown.

Especially after Liliana heard the word “police”—she changed completely, like she was someone else.

Suddenly, Liliana snatched up the knife again, swaying as she tried to get to her feet.

“Grab her!” Francisco snapped at the security guards.

“Don’t hurt Amelia!” Kristen was closest. She darted in before the guards, but the next second, she stopped dead.

Blood hit the floor, drop after drop.

Liliana’s knife was buried in Kristen’s stomach.

Kristen staggered back two steps and collapsed.

“Kristen!” Clive shouted, panic written all over his face as he rushed to catch her.

Amelia had never seen Clive like this before. Earlier, when Liliana came at her with the knife, all he’d done was shout her name. But now, with Kristen bleeding in his arms, his eyes burned red with fury as he glared at Liliana, pinned to the ground.

“If anything happens to Kristen, I’ll make you pay for it!” he yelled, his voice shaking.

Amelia just watched, strangely calm, as if none of this could touch her anymore.

If anyone should feel like a stranger, it was her.

Now that her feelings for Clive had vanished, Amelia realized just how little he’d ever been worth. All Kristen had to do was act hurt and Clive would fall for it, every single time.

Behind her, Ryan watched Clive hurry away with Kristen. He’d seen clearly that Kristen had thrown herself onto the knife. What an idiot.

Ryan’s face was all icy contempt—until he looked at Amelia. Then the coldness softened, replaced by something gentle.

She’d loved Clive so much, and for what?

Amelia started to walk toward Liliana. Ryan’s gaze sharpened, and even though Liliana was already pinned down by two guards, he followed, just in case.

Amelia crouched next to Liliana, studying her face. The woman was gray and trembling, her eyes empty, like she was lost in some nightmare.

“Don’t be scared,” Amelia said, her voice gentle as she took Liliana’s wrist, feeling for a pulse. She knew right away—this wasn’t just mania. Liliana’s pulse was slippery and erratic, her mind clouded and feverish. Most likely, it was schizophrenia.

“Liliana’s unbelievable,” the receptionist muttered, finally coming over now that things were under control. “She already put one coworker in the hospital and has to pay for their medical bills. Now she’s stabbed someone else…”
