Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 291

Amelia kept her distance, hanging back about thirty feet behind the others. All she wanted was to be a little closer to her mentor and the senior students—to see them again, just for a moment.

She never imagined Dr. Borgen would suddenly turn around. She froze, caught right in his line of sight with nowhere to hide.

She saw the way his expression stiffened as soon as he recognized her.

There was no point pretending she wasn’t there. Amelia forced herself to walk toward Dr. Borgen, her hands clenched tightly at her sides. The closer she got, the faster her heart raced.

Shame and longing tangled inside her. By the time she stopped in front of Dr. Borgen, her eyes were already red-rimmed.

“Dr. Borgen…” The word slipped out, shaky and thick with emotion. Seven years, and it still felt so raw to say.

She took a steadying breath, fighting to hold back tears.

Robert and the others finally noticed her. When they saw Amelia, their faces all shifted—somewhere between awkward and uncomfortable.

Susie folded her arms and turned away, cold and closed off.

Greg tugged at her sleeve, whispering, “Hey, don’t be like that. She can see you. She’s already having a rough enough time.”

Susie jerked away, snapping, “She’s not my little sister. Let’s see if Dr. Borgen still claims her after everything she did.”

Greg hesitated, glancing between them and the tense scene unfolding.

Susie wasn’t wrong. Dr. Borgen stared at Amelia for barely a second before his face turned to stone. He walked straight past her, not even glancing in her direction, treating her like she was invisible.

He didn’t even acknowledge her desperate “Dr. Borgen.”

Robert squeezed her shoulder, wanting to say something more.

“Amelia…”

She shook her head, managing another small smile. “I’m okay, Robert. Really. Would you tell Greg and Susie I said hi? I should go.”

There was no point in making things more awkward.

She gave Robert a polite nod and turned away.

Off to the side, Diego had been watching the whole time. He nudged Emmery, voice low and urgent.

“Go on! Now’s your chance. Go catch up to her and ask for her number!”
