Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 401

As long as Kristen married Clive without a hitch, the Watts family would officially be tied to the Salmerons—and that billion-dollar fortune would finally be within reach.

“Next week is Mr. Baker’s birthday gala. All the city’s top names will be there. You have to attend with Clive. Your father and I will be there too,” Bianca said.

Kristen nodded. “Clive and I already talked about it. We’ll go together. I just haven’t figured out what to get Mr. Baker for his birthday.”

Bianca’s smile turned sly. “You don’t have to worry about that, sweetheart. I’ve got it covered. I found out Mr. Baker’s favorite antique is a bronze ‘Flying Phoenix’ statue. And guess what? It’s sitting in our collection room right now. Take it as your gift and you’ll steal the show. My daughter, the brightest star in Alson Creek.” She gently stroked Kristen’s cheek, her eyes full of pride.

The next morning

Amelia didn’t go to West Medicine. She’d taken the day off and headed straight to the Green Wall base.

For starters, everything at West Medicine was on track now. Missing a day or half wouldn’t matter much. Plus, as the leader of Green Wall’s Group A, she had already received data from Dr. Wade about the technical issues facing the team. She’d come up with some preliminary solutions and wanted to meet with Dr. Wade and the core team to share her ideas. If her plan didn’t work, they could pivot right away and save time.

But honestly, another reason she was staying away was Clive. Today was the day he’d get kicked off the board, and with Andrew’s lawsuit waiting for him, Clive was bound to lose it. Knowing him, he’d probably show up at West Medicine to cause a scene. Amelia decided to dodge the drama and lay low.

If this was any other company, she might have worried about causing trouble or getting innocent coworkers involved. But West Medicine now belonged to Ryan, and even the security guys had picked up his no-nonsense attitude. If Clive tried anything, she could already picture him being dragged out by security, tasers flashing.

Last time, she’d only needed to pass through the office. Today, she was headed right into the main research area, and Emmery came to meet her at the entrance.

Emmery looked more and more nervous the closer they got to the meeting room, sneaking glances at Amelia whenever she thought Amelia wasn’t looking.

Amelia tried to play it cool, but with mirrors on all sides of the elevator, it was impossible to miss.

“Emmery, do you have something you want to say?” Amelia finally asked.

Emmery fidgeted, about to answer, but the elevator doors slid open.

A familiar face was waiting outside.

Standing outside, Amelia listened to her mentor’s angry rant, and tears burned down her face.

So all these years, her teacher had been watching over her, quietly.

She was his student, and he could spot her work instantly. He wasn’t just angry—he was heartbroken that she’d wasted her talent on people who didn’t deserve her, and that she’d done it willingly.

Dr. Wade sighed. “Come on, Jared…”

“That’s enough! I’m leaving before that ungrateful brat gets here. And you better not trick me into coming again, old man, or I’ll show you what eight years of martial arts looks like!”

He grumbled as he stomped toward the door.

But as soon as he reached it, he saw Amelia standing there.

Her face was wet with tears she hadn’t had time to wipe away. Ashamed and overwhelmed, she bowed her head and whispered, “Professor…”
