Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 427

Every so often, she’d raise her hand and cut in with a question—always the kind that got right to the heart of things.

Her voice was deep and clear, smooth as velvet, and she always had something meaningful to say. As soon as Amelia started talking, people couldn’t help but pay attention.

Clive was sitting right across from her.

He’d finally gotten over his frustration at being made the butt of the joke earlier, but all through the meeting, he struggled to keep his cool. No matter how hard he tried, his eyes kept drifting back to Amelia. The glow from the screen lit up her face, and for the first time, he noticed just how beautiful she looked when she was working—almost like she was shining from within.

Even her little frowns were fascinating to watch. When she absentmindedly brushed her bangs aside, there was something about the way she moved—casual, graceful, and just a little bit dangerous—that made his heart skip a beat.

Clive felt his throat go dry. He tried to play it off, grabbing his water and taking a sip, but anyone paying close attention would’ve noticed his hand wasn’t quite steady.

Kristen saw everything from her spot in the corner.

She was so angry her jaw ached, and her brand new manicure was in danger from how tightly she balled her fists. That bitch Amelia, she thought, of course she’s doing this on purpose. Plotting, scheming—trying to steal Clive back.

Not a chance. Kristen wouldn’t let her win.

Without a word, she slipped out the side door of the conference room and called her father, Hank.

“Dad, I need a background check on a few people. As soon as possible.”

The meeting dragged on for almost an hour and a half. After a quick break, everyone was supposed to head out for a tour of Cloudcrest’s factory.

Dr. Wade had somewhere else to be, so he left early.

Susie personally walked Dr. Wade to his car. As she turned back, she ran right into Kristen.

“Susie,” Kristen called, her smile warm and polite. She handed over a folder. “I know I only got into Group A because Amelia wanted to make things awkward for me. But I put a lot of effort into this. Here’s my proposal for the main problems Group A is facing. I’d appreciate it if you could take a look.”

Susie was definitely the one who disliked Amelia the most.

Back when they were both under Dr. Borgen, Susie never accepted Amelia. They’d argued more than once. After Amelia left to get married, someone brought her up at a conference and Susie had gone stone-cold, saying in front of everyone that she didn’t have a little sister.

That was when things had really fallen apart.

Kristen had noticed during the meeting that Amelia seemed to be trying to get on Susie’s good side, but Susie just brushed her off.

The enemy of my enemy, Kristen thought, is a friend.

“Susie,” Kristen said, her tone a little regretful, “Honestly, with your skills, you should be the team leader.”

Susie closed the folder and gave Kristen a cool, unreadable look. “What are you trying to say?”
