It really was Cameron and Clive.
Cameron had spotted Amelia and Felix from across the room. The two of them were deep in conversation, drifting closer together with every step. He’d shown up a little late, and when he’d come in earlier, Amelia was just slipping out. He’d only caught a glimpse of her profile—it looked familiar, but he hadn’t thought much of it. Honestly, with Amelia’s background, how would she ever get an invite to Mr. Baker’s birthday party?
But now, seeing her right here, arm in arm with Felix, everything clicked. So that’s how she got in.
He leaned closer to Clive, lowering his voice. “Remember outside that restaurant the other day? Felix was the one who started talking to her, and Amelia acted all above it, like she couldn’t care less. Figures, though—she’s been cozying up to him behind the scenes.”
Clive just pressed his lips together, silent and brooding, eyes locked on Amelia.
They went over to say hi to Felix.
Cameron’s gaze swept over Amelia, head to toe, his voice icy and mocking. “Ms. Sadinton, looks like you’re really living your best life after the divorce. All dressed up every day like some social butterfly, jumping from one guy to the next. Doesn’t that get exhausting?”
Back then, Amelia would’ve jumped to defend herself, desperate to prove she wasn’t like that.
But not anymore.
She just smoothed back her hair and let out a little laugh. “Wow, Mr. Henson, I didn’t realize you paid so much attention to me. What’s wrong? Got tired of chasing Kristen, so now you’re pining after me?”
“You—!” Cameron was so flustered he couldn’t even keep up his usual act. He glanced at Clive, face darkening as he glared at Amelia. “Amelia, you’re a woman. Can’t you have a little self-respect? What kind of nonsense are you spouting?”
Amelia stared right back, her voice cold. “So what if I’m a woman? That means I’m just supposed to stand here and let you insult me? I’m a woman, not a doormat. If you’re looking for a fight, you’re barking up the wrong tree.”
Felix couldn’t help but let a small smile curve his lips.
The way he looked at Amelia changed—like he’d just discovered something interesting.
A rose with thorns, huh. Now this was getting fun.
Clive noticed the look Felix was giving Amelia, and something sour twisted in his chest.
