Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 512

Timmy glanced up at Amelia, his expression earnest as he suggested, “Mom, should we call the police for Jinx? What if she was actually kidnapped? Maybe she’s one of those missing kids!”

Amelia had to admit, the way the old lady treated Jinx made her uncomfortable too. But when she thought it through, she couldn’t agree with Timmy’s theory.

“Timmy,” she said softly, “do you really think someone would send a kidnapped child to an expensive private school? And if we can’t really help Jinx, getting involved without thinking it through could just drag her into even more trouble.”

Timmy knew his mom made sense. He looked back in the direction Jinx had gone, a little sympathy in his eyes, then followed Amelia to the car.

They hadn’t been driving long when Amelia’s phone rang. Donna’s name popped up, and Amelia’s heart leapt into her throat—she immediately thought something might have happened to Penny. She picked up in a hurry, her voice tight with worry. “Donna, what’s wrong? Is Penny okay? Does she feel sick?”

Adrian had already updated her that Penny’s checkup was fine, but still, Amelia couldn’t help but worry. Had something else happened?

Anxious, she pulled over so she could focus on the call.

On the other end, Clive sat in a chair, Donna’s phone on speaker between them. He listened closely as Amelia’s anxious voice filled the room, then gestured for Donna to keep going.

Donna sighed, but followed Clive’s lead. “Ms. Sadinton, I think Salmeron found out about what you asked me to do. What should we do now?”

As soon as Amelia realized Penny wasn’t in trouble, she relaxed. But when Donna brought up Clive, Amelia’s tone went icy.

Not wanting Timmy to overhear anything about his dad, Amelia got out of the car and walked a few steps away.

Once she was out of earshot, she said coldly, “Just tell Clive the truth. I’m the one who asked you to take Penny’s sachet out for testing. If he can’t even look after his own daughter, and he’s worried about what to do, maybe he should think about that for a change. And if he wants to fire you, Donna, perfect. You can just come work for me.”

Clive couldn’t think of anything to say.

Donna straightened, shot a sideways look at Salmeron, and continued, “And, Ms. Sadinton, Caroline took a video of us meeting at lunch. She’s already shown it to Salmeron and Kristen. I think they’re about to start gossiping about you again.”

Amelia just snorted, unimpressed. “Let them talk. What are they going to say? That I bribed you, and we’re up to something shady? Clive falls for anything he hears—he can’t tell right from wrong. Honestly, I don’t care what he thinks. I’ve already sent Penny’s sachet to my friend for testing. If there’s anything in there that could hurt her, Kristen’s not getting away with it.”
