George let out a low chuckle that quickly dissolved into a rough cough. “Come on, Shane, don’t blame my brother for this. Ryan? He doesn’t even care about his own life. There’s just one person he treats like she’s everything. And now that she’s in trouble, missing—maybe even worse—he’s not exactly thinking straight. I hope you can cut him some slack.”
“A goddess?” Shane’s brow furrowed, then realization hit. “You mean… Ms. Sadinton?”
George nodded, letting the question hang in the air. His tone turned calm but firm. “The Packman family’s Shadow Guard only takes orders from the head of the family. No one else. I’ll make sure everyone in the park is safe.”
He hesitated, then added, “But about my brother… take my advice, Shane. Don’t mess with him right now.”
Shane’s face turned even darker. He tossed his phone to Andrew, not bothering to say anything else.
At the park entrance, the security guards must’ve gotten new instructions—they stepped aside, finally letting the crowds leave.
One frantic old woman burst through the doors, grabbing a police officer’s arm in desperation. “Officer, please, my granddaughter Jinx is missing! She just had to see the show, and I only turned away for a second to buy her something, and now she’s gone! Please, you have to help me find her!”
That little girl was everything to her family—their hope, their future.
The rain finally started to fall.
Ryan stood there in the middle of it all, dressed in black from head to toe, hair wet and clinging to his face. He looked like a shadow come to life, cold and dangerous, the kind of presence that made people keep their distance.
Donna rushed over, her nerves frayed. She pulled Timmy away from Ryan and hugged him close.
She didn’t know who Ryan was—all she saw was an intimidatingly handsome man surrounded by armed bodyguards in black. He looked terrifying.
“It’s okay, Timmy. This man… he just has a lot to do right now. Let’s not bother him, okay? I’m sure your mom already went home. Come with me, I’ll take you home.” Donna’s voice shook as she spoke, scooping Timmy into her arms and hurrying off.
Thankfully, the men in black didn’t stop her.
“Mr. Packman…” Francisco finally forced himself to speak, his voice tight. “We’ve searched every corner of the Ferris Wheel Park. Every place someone could hide. There’s no sign of Ms. Sadinton…”
