Felix lounged on the couch nearby, casually pulling out his phone and snapping a quick photo of her.
Amelia glanced over, puzzled. “What are you doing?”
Felix, in his calm, unhurried way, replied, “Grandpa wants an update. He asked me to send a picture. And I’ll need another one after you finish eating.”
Amelia could only sigh. She hadn’t eaten all day, but there were so many things weighing on her mind that she barely had an appetite. She picked at her food, then finally set her fork down.
“Thank you for visiting, Mr. Baker. Please let Grandpa Baker know I’m fine—he doesn’t need to worry.”
She wasn’t the one in real trouble anyway.
Felix nodded, taking her words at face value. He stepped up and started clearing her plate, tidying up the table without saying anything more.
Amelia was surprised by how thoughtful he was.
“Mr. Baker, really, I can do that,” she said.
Felix gently blocked her hand. Her fingertips brushed lightly across the back of his, leaving a faint chill behind.
“Grandpa asked me to look after you, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.” He glanced at her, his eyes calm and unreadable. “Are you sure there’s nothing you need? Anything at all?”
If she just said the word, he’d use his connections for her. Even if it meant handling her annoying ex.
“Actually, there is something I wanted to ask you.” Amelia’s voice was serious, and there was a flash of urgency in her eyes.
Felix smiled. “Go ahead.”
“Mr. Baker, you have a good relationship with the Packman family, right?”
Felix didn’t expect her to mention the Packmans and raised an eyebrow.
“Our families know each other, yes.”
“If it’s not too much, could you check on someone for me—Mr. Ryan Packman?” Amelia’s chest tightened as she said Ryan’s name, the memory of him collapsing still sharp and painful.
“You mean Ryan, the illegitimate son?” Felix’s frown was barely noticeable, but Amelia caught the hint of contempt in his voice.
She felt a little uncomfortable but hid it well. She needed his help.
“Yes. I just want to know if he’s alright, if he’s out of danger.”
Felix didn’t answer right away. He studied her for a moment, then suddenly gave her a small reassuring smile.
“Alright. I’ll see what I can do.”
Donna came up behind, holding Jinx’s hand.
“Timmy, slow down!”
Jinx was tiny for her age, barely as tall as Felix’s knee. She gazed up at the tall man, her big eyes full of curiosity. There was something oddly familiar about him.
Felix hadn’t noticed the little girl at first, but just as he was about to step into the elevator, he felt a gentle tug at his pant leg.
He looked down and saw a little girl with huge eyes staring up at him.
“Mister…” she whispered shyly, clutching his pant leg tighter as she recognized his face.
Felix couldn’t help but chuckle a little. Kids really seemed to like him today.
“Do you need something, sweetheart?”
Donna noticed something was up and looked down. “What’s wrong, Jinx? Do you know this man?”
Jinx didn’t answer. She just clung to Felix’s pant leg, refusing to let go.
Felix started to sense something strange. He frowned slightly and turned to Donna. “What did you call her?”
