In the end, Clive just couldn’t let Kristen die right in front of him.
He rushed back, kicked the bloody knife from her hand, and dropped down beside her. When he checked her wrist, his heart sank—the cut was way deeper than he’d thought. Blood was streaming out, pooling on the floor, and he was struggling to stop it.
Clive’s mind was spinning as he glanced down at Kristen’s pale face. He wrapped her arm as best he could, shaky and quick, then scooped her up and carried her to the car.
As he sped toward the Henson family’s private hospital, he called Cameron, keeping it short and urgent.
“Kristen cut her wrist. I’m bringing her in. Get the ER ready.”
He heard Cameron gasp on the other end. “What did you say?!”
Clive didn’t answer, just hung up and glanced at Kristen in the rearview mirror. She was slumped against the seat, her skin almost translucent, totally out cold from the blood loss.
But even unconscious, her lips kept moving, whispering something over and over.
Clive leaned closer and caught it.
She was calling his name.
When they pulled up to the hospital, Cameron was already outside with a team of doctors and nurses. The second Clive stopped the car, they rushed Kristen inside and straight into the operating room.
Cameron stayed with her until the doors swung shut behind the gurney. Only then did he let himself breathe, his whole body tense with worry.
But he was furious, too. He stalked around the hospital until he found Clive alone in a quiet corner of the garden, cigarette in hand, looking cold and distant.
“What the hell did you do to Kristen?” Cameron demanded, voice tight. “She didn’t just cut herself—she went all the way. She must’ve been at the end of her rope!”
Cameron was silent, caught off guard.
Clive shoved his hands in his pockets and started walking away. As he passed, he said without looking back, “Kristen stays here for the next five days. I’m sure you’ll take care of her.”
Cameron stared at Clive’s back, frowning hard. He called out, his voice heavy, “Is this about Amelia? Are you taking it out on Kristen? That’s not fair—none of this is Kristen’s fault! It was all Bianca. She’s already turned herself in. Kristen doesn’t deserve any of this.”
Clive stopped, turning around with a hard look. “What did you say? Bianca turned herself in?”
“Yeah.” Cameron walked up. “A friend at the station told me—off the record. He knows Kristen’s like a sister to me, and that you’re my best friend. So as soon as he heard about Bianca, he called me.”
Cameron took a breath before continuing. “Bianca confessed everything. She hated that Amelia wouldn’t forgive her husband, Hank, so she got in touch with Levi and wanted revenge. But Clive, you’re blaming Kristen for something she never did. Remember those hunting trips overseas? Kristen couldn’t even kill a rabbit. She’s not someone who could ever hurt anybody.”
