Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 58

Caroline scrolled through her camera roll, hunting for the video she’d shot earlier that day.

There it was—Amelia, looking awkward as she stepped over the fire basin at the entrance, only to get swatted by the housekeeper, Lee, with a willow branch. Caroline had made sure to film from the least flattering angle, making Amelia seem clueless and out of place.

Smirking, Caroline sent the video off to her favorite group chat—the one filled with Alston Creek’s wealthiest heirs and heiresses.

Caroline: [Big news, everyone! My sister-in-law Amelia finally woke up after five years in a coma. She came home today, had to jump over a fire pit to get rid of bad luck. Sharing the good vibes!]

Mrs. Salmeron watched from the side, a little worried. “That video… Are you sure no one in the group will spread it around?”

Caroline shrugged, totally unfazed as she sipped her bird’s nest soup. “So what if they do? It’s about time everyone saw how out of place she is in our family. Mom, Amelia never fit in. It’s only a matter of time before my brother leaves her. You know he only married her because he had to. Now that he’s healthy, he definitely doesn’t need her anymore.”

A cold smile crept onto Mrs. Salmeron’s face. “Exactly. She’s already given birth—much easier to keep the child and get rid of the mother.”

“Amelia ended up in a coma because of a difficult birth. If my brother had divorced her back then, people would’ve talked. But now…” Caroline leaned back into the couch, eyes flickering with calculation. “Now everyone can see for themselves how tacky and unworthy she is. When my brother files for divorce, public opinion will totally be on his side.”

That hit the sweet spot for Mrs. Salmeron. In her mind, Amelia was nothing but a stepping stone for her son’s future.

Mrs. Salmeron’s mood only lifted from there. “Your dad told me we’re hosting Ryan tonight—the new owner of West Medicine! If your brother can lock in a strategic partnership with them, his position in the company will shoot up. Your cousin Sammy won’t be able to threaten him anymore. After that, your brother will have the best shot at inheriting the whole group.”

Mrs. Salmeron was instantly supportive. “Let me call that celebrity stylist and makeup artist right now. I’ll have them at your place first thing in the morning to make sure you look absolutely perfect.”

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, the night was just getting started.

At the top of a skyscraper, in a conference room so huge it was almost ridiculous, Ryan sat at the head of the table, looking completely relaxed and in control. His tailored pants emphasized his long legs, one crossed over the other, while his slender fingers played with a piece of printer paper. With a couple of smooth folds, a paper butterfly appeared at his fingertips—delicate, almost unreal.

Across from him, seven or eight senior execs sat stiffly around the massive table, all of them staring intently at the quarterly profit reports from last year. No one dared to look up.
