Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 584

The next morning, Donna took Timmy to school while Amelia stood at the front door, waving goodbye.

“Bye, Mom! You’ll pick me up after school, right?” Timmy called out, his backpack bouncing as he ran down the steps.

“Of course, sweetheart. Be careful and have a great day,” Amelia replied, her smile lingering as she watched him go.

When she glanced up, she spotted Patrick standing a few steps away, looking uneasy. He met her eyes for a second and then looked down, almost like he was too embarrassed to face her.

“Miss… about the other day. I should have been with you the whole time. If I was, Levi and the Watts women wouldn’t have gotten the chance…” he started awkwardly.

Amelia shook her head, her voice soft. “You can’t protect me every minute, Patrick. Really, I’m fine. See? Nothing happened. Go on, make sure Donna and Timmy get to school safely.”

Donna took Timmy’s hand and led him toward the car. Patrick hesitated, then seemed to remember something.

“Oh, right. Miss, did my dad try to reach you?”

Amelia blinked, confused. “No, why? Did something happen with Grandpa?” She felt a flutter of anxiety in her chest.

Patrick rushed to reassure her. “No, it’s nothing bad. Mr. Sadinton is fine. It’s just… last night I went by the care center to pick up something, and I saw the light on in Mr. Sadinton’s old lab. The door was locked, and I couldn’t get in. My dad said Mr. Sadinton suddenly came to and locked himself inside. He told everyone to leave him alone.”

Amelia’s heart skipped a beat, hope flickering in her eyes. “Wait, you mean Grandpa woke up?”

Patrick nodded. “He’s had these moments of clarity over the years, but they never last long. He’s aware, but his memory isn’t all there. Most of the time he thinks he’s still living years ago. My dad probably didn’t want to upset you by telling you. I shouldn’t have brought it up.”

Amelia took a steady breath, forcing herself to stay calm. “It’s okay. Thanks for telling me, Patrick. Go on and take care of Timmy.”

As soon as Patrick left, Amelia grabbed her things and headed straight for the garage. She got in her car and drove directly to the care center.

She remembered the last time she’d been in Grandpa’s lab. Everything had been cleared out after he got sick. Whatever important research he’d been working on had disappeared with the equipment.

Patrick wasn’t wrong, but he didn’t quite get it. In cases like Grandpa Tony’s, those brief flashes of awareness usually revolved around the people and memories that mattered most.

Amelia frowned, mind racing.

What was Grandpa working on that meant so much to him? What kind of experiment could keep him anchored like that?

If she hadn’t met George, she might have believed that Ryan built the care center and looked after Grandpa Tony just because he loved her. But after seeing George even once, she knew things were more complicated.
