Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 65

Amelia kept her tone steady. “Then make another one. Timmy and Penny should have theirs, too. Or do I need your permission just to eat a steak in my own house? Or should I call Clive and ask him instead?”

Marian’s awkward smile faltered. “No, ma’am, that’s not what I meant.”

Amelia’s face stayed blank. She reached for her plate, nudged it forward—it was clear she wanted Marian to split the steak from Timmy and Penny’s plates right now.

Penny, thinking Amelia was just picking on Marian again, tossed her fork down, annoyed.

“I don’t want it anymore! You can have it! Timmy, let’s go. I want dumplings from Xiangbao House. Let’s get the driver to take us!”

It wasn’t really about the dumplings—she just knew Momma Kristen loved them, and she wanted to bring some for her.

She grabbed Timmy’s hand and pulled him toward the door, ignoring Amelia calling after them.

“Penny, wait! Let me come with you—”

Amelia stood up in a hurry, but she didn’t watch her step, caught the corner of the table, and went down hard.

She was so thin that when she hit the cold floor, the pain made her freeze, unable to get up.

Timmy turned just in time to see her fall. He wanted to help, but Penny held him tightly.

“Don’t worry about her, Timmy. Marian’s here. Let’s go—the driver’s waiting!”

In the car, Penny turned to the driver politely. “Could you take us to Xiangbao House, please? I want to get breakfast for Momma Kristen and Dad.”

She sent Kristen a voice message, her face lighting up with excitement.

“Momma Kristen, Timmy and I are going to get your favorite dumplings for you and Dad, then we’ll come see you at the hospital. Love you!”

Kristen replied right away.

Penny held her phone up to her ear, grinning, her eyes crinkling into little crescents.

She turned away, cheeks puffed out in frustration. “Whatever. You’re not allowed to like that mean woman who hurt Momma Kristen!”

Timmy fell quiet.

Honestly, he hadn’t spent as much time with Kristen as Penny had. He was always busy—different classes, extra lessons for the family business. Most of the time, it was Kristen taking care of Penny.

He knew Penny always thought of Kristen as her real mom. That was fine, before. But now their real mom was back.

And, to be honest, he didn’t actually dislike Amelia…

Timmy touched his forehead, trying to figure out if he was imagining things. Last night, he could’ve sworn Amelia came to his room and kissed him goodnight—a gentle, almost weightless kiss. It felt so warm.

But Amelia was blind. Maybe he dreamed it.

Timmy let his hand fall into his lap, suddenly feeling small and a little lost.
