Chapter 148 Martha’s Sick
“I’ve seen that dish before, too! Only The Grand Regent can pull off that dish like this!”
“It smells so good! Is it too late to switch crews just for lunch?”
The aroma had people swooning, and a few even asked the film director if they could work for
a day with no pay, just to get a plate.
When the signature entree finally hit the table, people teared up after the very first bite.
“This is it! It’s so incredible that I could just die content!”
“We’re blessed to be on this crew!”
Onlookers started wavering. “Wait. Are those actually The Grand Regent chefs?”
Someone pulled up the restaurant’s homepage. “They just posted that they are closed today, which means the chefs are out on a special job. It’s real!”
Everyone checked their phones and finally realized how ridiculous they’d been. They were clearly chefs from The Grand Regent!
Natalie’s face went dark. She couldn’t even get a reservation at The Grand Regent, yet Nancy had their chefs cooking on set. How was that possible?
Jealousy crawled under her skin like ants.
“What are you still standing here for?” Hillary barked. “We don’t have leftovers for you! Take your scraps and get off our turf!”
The
posse
behind Natalie flushed as they looked over the trays they had brought.
“So Natalie really tried to make them eat her leftovers?”
“Seriously? Who can’t afford lunch here? We’ve got The Grand Regent’s chefs cooking for us!”
“They thought they were so posh with The Silver Garden for lunch, but it’s nothing next to The Grand Regent!”
The snickers hit like open-handed slaps.
Wendy turned pale, while Natalie was so furious that her fingers shook and her mind reeled.
Then, Natalie spun on her heel and stalked back to her side.
Silence fell over her set. None of the earlier cheer remained.

Elsewhere, Natalie dropped onto the couch in their lounge.
Her assistant brought a plate. “Natalie, eat something.”
Natalie smacked it away. “Eat, eat, eat! How am I supposed to eat?”
She had just tried to crush Nancy, but Nancy still somehow came out on top. How could life be so unfair?
Across the set, the team enjoyed their meal, while the onlookers, tortured by the smell, left
one by one.
Hillary leaned in and whispered, “Nancy, how did you even get The Grand Regent to cook on
site?”
“I have no idea,” Nancy whispered back. “Because Gideon did it.”
“Of course he did!” Hillary shot her a thumbs-up, grinning. “Did you see Wendy’s and Natalie’s faces? It looked like they swallowed flies. Maybe now they will stop acting up!”
Nancy nodded and texted Gideon a simple thanks.
He replied immediately, “Darling, thanks should not be just words.”
“What do you want then?” she typed back.
“A kiss,” he replied simply.
Nancy’s cheeks warmed, and she decisively left him on read.
After the chefs packed up, the crew members took a short break and rolled the cameras again.
Next door, it was so quiet that a pin drop could be heard. Meanwhile, Nancy’s side had already settled into a groove.
Hillary looked satisfied. “That felt good! Your strategy certainly did the trick. They’re as quiet
as mice now!”
“Use your head, not your fists,” Nancy said.
“Copy that. It’s no wonder Winter and her group are scared of you.”
The two chatted a bit longer. With the mini-crisis handled, Nancy decided to head out.
On the drive back, Nancy passed the Fuller Group branch office, and on impulse, pulled in. The moment she stepped inside, she bumped right into Corey.
“Ms. Moore, are you here to see Mr. Fuller?” he asked.

“Yeah. Is he in?” she asked.
“He is. Take this elevator to the 28th floor,” Corey replied.
Then, he walked her to the elevator.
Nancy rode up and stopped outside the CEO’s office. The door stood ajar, and voices drifted
out.
“Mr. Fuller, you really can’t eat spicy food again. Your stomach can’t take it.”
Gideon’s voice sounded rougher than usual. “There’s no way to make it safer for me?”
“Take care of your current burns first. You can ease into the heat later.”
Nancy was stunned. She remembered Corey mentioning that morning that Gideon couldn’t handle spicy food. So why hadn’t Gideon said anything when they had the spicy barbecue last night?
Through the crack in the door, she glimpsed the doctor’s serious face. Her fingers curled at her sides as her thoughts drifted.
If spicy food wrecked him, why had he pretended to be fine? His stomach burns had gotten so bad that he needed a doctor.
Nancy couldn’t help but feel guilty.
Just then, her phone buzzed in her pocket. It was a message from Regina. “Are you busy?”
Nancy didn’t bother to respond.
Another text landed almost immediately after. “Your grandma is in the hospital. Come now! Here’s the address!”
The location of a cafe near a hospital was pinned below.
Nancy frowned and tried calling Martha, but no one picked up.
Was Martha really sick?
