Chapter 197
Logan didn’t say anything else.
Wren just turned and walked away.
That was the end of their conversation.
Logan turned his gaze back to his wife’s tombstone.
“Our son will end up just like us,” he murmured, then let out a bitter laugh. “Grind my bones to ashes? For me, that happened the very day you died.”

With her trip to Dracorialand coming up, Zoya was busy tying up all her loose ends at work and stocking up on everything she’d need for her journey abroad.
When quitting time rolled around, Eowyn threw an arm around Zoya’s shoulders. “Come on, let’s hit the bar. Tonight, we’re getting totally smashed.”
The place Eowyn picked had some decent food, too.
She even booked them a private booth.
But when the two of them walked in, they found Harvey already inside-and Leon, too.
“Why’d you bring him along?” Eowyn frowned at Harvey.
“Seriously, I’m just as confused as you are,” Harvey said, rubbing his forehead.
After work, he was heading over when Leon overheard his phone call with Eowyn, so naturally, Leon just insisted on coming along as well.
Eowyn groaned and shot Leon a look. “Seriously, why are you even here? This was supposed to be just me, Zoya, and Harvey hanging out.”
“I’m just making sure you don’t get wasted and try something with my nephew-can’t forget your track record,” Leon replied, completely straight-faced.
Eowyn turned red with embarrassment. “Oh, come on! I’ve told you a million times that was such a misunderstanding!”
“What’s this so-called track record?” Zoya chimed in, eyeing them both curiously.
“It’s nothing; just a misunderstanding,” Harvey said, giving Leon a side-eye. “Leon, if you want to see Eowyn, just own up. Don’t use me as your excuse.”
Seriously, Harvey wasn’t clueless. He knew perfectly well that Leon showed up tonight just for Eowyn.
Leon was never the type to join in on casual hangouts like this anyway.
“That’s true,” Leon said coolly.
It was as good as admitting it.
Eowyn scrunched up her face, thinking, ‘Seriously? Is he still hung up on me? I already shot him down once,
didn’t I?’
Not wanting things to get any more awkward, Eowyn jumped in to change the subject. “Let’s get some food in us before we start pounding drinks.”
Saying that, she flagged down a server and put in an order for some food, snacks, and a round of drinks.
They were eating and drinking, and pretty soon the topic shifted to Zoya’s trip to Dracorialand.
“Wait, you’re going to Dracorialand?” Harvey blurted out, eyebrows raised in shock.
“Yeah,” Zoya said. “After the border fire five years back, my brother was last seen in Dracorialand. So I’m heading over, hoping I can find some leads.”
It’d been five years—a zero chance he was still around-but she had to try, no matter what.
“Dracorialand’s pretty chaotic right now. It’s not exactly safe,” Leon said. “If you’re looking for someone, I can reach out to some people I know out there, get them to ask around for you.”
“Thanks, but I have to do this in person,” Zoya replied.
“So, are you going with Wren?” Harvey asked.
“No, I’m going alone,” Zoya replied.
“What, Wren’s actually letting you travel by yourself?” Harvey exclaimed, sounding genuinely surprised.
“We broke up, so I’m heading to Dracorialand by myself,” Zoya said, not bothering to hide it.
“Wait, you two broke up?” Harvey said, sounding honestly shocked.
Even Leon looked genuinely surprised. He’d seen firsthand how insanely possessive Wren was over Zoya. Once, just because she went to a male dance show, Wren actually had the whole show shut down and paid off the entire audience, just because he absolutely couldn’t tolerate Zoya looking at another guy.
Rumor had it that when someone from the Richmond family fell for somebody, they’d go off the deep end- obsession at its wildest.
Leon couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Could a guy like that really be willing to let Zoya go?’
“Yeah, we broke up,” Zoya replied, trying to sound casual, but there was a faint bitterness in her voice.
Seeing this, Eowyn quickly jumped in. “Hey, tonight’s all about drinking our troubles away! Come on, let’s
have a toast!”
With that, she popped open a bottle and started pouring drinks for everyone.
As they ate and drank, a few rounds in, the mood finally started to lighten up.
Eowyn, tipsy, draped her arm over Zoya’s shoulders and blurted, “Wren’s not worth it? Kick him to the curb! C’mon, men aren’t an endangered species. There’s always another one waiting to be better.”
“Eowyn, give it a rest!” Harvey said with an exasperated frown. “Why are you even going there?”
“Come on, of course I’ve gotta hunt down someone even better for Zozo,” Eowyn replied matter-of-factly. She grabbed Zoya’s cheeks and grinned. “Trust me, I’ll track down a total heartthrob who’s ten times more loyal, just to make Wren completely lose it!”
Zozo could tell her friend was definitely buzzed, so she just said, “I’m really not planning to date anyone right
now…”
She hadn’t even finished when suddenly a voice cut through the air. “Oh? So, Eowyn wants to play matchmaker for Zozo now?”
Everyone jumped, snapping their heads toward the door.
Nobody noticed when the door had opened, but now Wren was standing right there, having just walked inside.
Zoya sprang up, putting herself between Eowyn and Wren. “What are you doing here?”
“If I hadn’t walked in, Eowyn would be matchmaking you with a whole parade of guys, don’t you think?” Wren’s voice was cold as his eyes flicked over Eowyn.
Eowyn froze, the booze buzz evaporating on the spot. Suddenly, she was stone-cold sober, a chill running down her spine.
“We’re done, Wren. So even if Eowyn wants to introduce me to as many guys as she likes, that’s none of your concern,” Zoya retorted.
Harvey strode forward, blocking Wren’s path. “Wren, nobody here wants you around. You gonna leave on your own, or do I have to toss you out myself?”
Wren didn’t even glance at Harvey. His eyes were glued to Zoya. “It’s my birthday, and you said you’d stay with me.”
Zoya stiffened, and Harvey snapped, “You’re done. Why are you still chasing this?”
“Will you stay with me?” Wren’s gaze stayed fixed on Zoya; his eyes looked almost serene, but there was a wild, dangerous intensity simmering just beneath the surface.
“Oh, come on! Are you seriously ignoring everything I say?” Harvey barked, about to lunge at Wren when Zoya stepped in and blocked him.
“Fine. I’ll go with you,” Zoya said.
“Zoya?” Harvey frowned, concern etched across his face. “You don’t have to force yourself. Wren or not, there’s no way he’s gonna take you if you don’t want to go.”
The tension in the room was so thick that it could be cut with a knife.
Eowyn shivered and sidled up to Leon, whispering urgently, “Hey, stop just sitting there watching! Aren’t you gonna do something? What if Harvey and Wren actually start throwing punches?”
Leon raised an eyebrow, glancing at her. “So, you want me to step in and break up the fight?”
Eowyn eyed Leon’s scholarly, gentle look and thought to herself, ‘Honestly, if he tried to step in, he’d probably just get knocked around like a punching bag.
Zoya lifted her head, steady and calm. “It’s not like I’m being forced into this,” she said. “I promised him I’d spend his birthday with him, so I’m just keeping my promise.”
With that, she grabbed her bag and turned to Wren. “Let’s go.”
Once they walked out of the booth, Zoya suddenly stopped and turned to face Wren, who was following close behind. “So tell me, Wren, if I hadn’t come with you, what would you have done?”
