Chapter 201
“I know you’re looking for your brother and heading to Dracorialand for that, right? I can go with you,” Harvey said.
“It’s fine. I’ll handle it on my own, Zoya replied. If she hadn’t learned about Harvey’s feelings, she probably
wouldn’t think much of it.
Now that Zoya understood Harvey liked her, it just felt wrong to let him ditch work and follow her. It was like she’d be using him for her own problems.
“The military and the embassy in Dracorialand will both help me out. I’ve been there before anyway, so I’ll be fine solo,” Zoya said. “And I promised Eowyn I’d message her every day to let her know I’m safe.”
Harvey gave a bitter, self-mocking smile. ‘Even her rejection has to be so absolute?’ he thought, feeling that Zoya always drew a clear line between them.
“Then I’ll wait,” he said.
“What?” Zoya was caught off guard.
“Since you’ve broken things off with Wren, I’ll wait. I’ll wait until you find your brother. I’ll wait until you’re ready to jump into something new,” Harvey said, his voice steady. He wasn’t about to let another chance slip
away.
“But I only see you as my friend,” Zoya said.
“Is it just because I always treated you like a friend that you got the wrong idea? Maybe I should just call you Zozo, like Eowyn does,” Harvey said.
“It’s not that; it’s just…” Zoya felt her brain short-circuiting. “What if I never want to get into another relationship? Would you really wait your whole life?”
“Then I’ll just wait and see. Maybe someday you’ll fall for me,” Harvey said with a faint smile.
Zoya stood there for a while, struggling to find the right words.
Finally, she said, “Did it ever cross your mind that being in the army, you didn’t get to meet many women— and maybe you’ve just mistaken your attachment to me for something deeper? Maybe what you feel is really just the kind of bond soldiers share.”
“I can tell real love from the bond between comrades,” Harvey replied with a steady gaze. “I’ve had enough years to know my own heart; I’m not confused about how I feel.”
Seeing Zoya knit her brows, Harvey gave a soft, teasing smile. “If this makes you nervous, let’s just keep things the way they’ve always been.
“You can treat me like your friend, or just a comrade-whatever helps you feel at ease. But when the day comes you’re ready for something more, maybe consider me, yeah?”
“But…” Zoya protested, but Harvey didn’t give her the chance to finish.
“Surely you won’t shut me out from even being a candidate, right?” Harvey grinned. “No pressure-liking you is my choice, and it’s time I’m happy to spend.”
“So why did you fall for me, Harvey?” Zoya said, genuinely puzzled. “Other than seeing each other a lot at the base, once I got married, we barely talked or met for three whole years,” She’d even wondered if Harvey was trying to cut ties with his old comrades,
Harvey grinned and shook his head. “You really don’t get how attractive you are, Zoya. Back at the base, there were loads of guys crushing on you.
“If you’d ever said you were looking for a boyfriend, you probably would’ve had a busload of suitors lining up outside your door.”
“Honestly, maybe I was just admiring you at first-but bit by bit, that admiration grew into something more. Before I knew it, I had a real crush on you.”
Then came that snowy day… When she carried him on her back, hauling him step by step through the blizzard to the hospital while he was burning up with fever. That was the moment he realized that he was in love with her.
That feeling ran so deep that it hurt. So when he got word out of nowhere that she had married someone, he couldn’t take it. He had to escape and leave the country because his heart just couldn’t handle staying.
For those three years, Harvey just couldn’t stop blaming himself for not confessing his feelings sooner.
This time, though, he swore to himself he wouldn’t miss out again-no way he was letting her slip away once
more.

The next day, Zoya went over to the law office to meet the lawyer Harvey had arranged for her.
The night before, she’d told Harvey she wanted a lawyer-planning to file a lawsuit to recover the jewelry and money Nicolas had given Jasmine during their marriage.
She may have rushed the divorce, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to fight for what was rightfully hers.
“No problem. I’ll hook you up with a lawyer. Just swing by the office tomorrow,” Harvey said breezily.
But when Zoya showed up at the law office the next day, she was totally caught off guard to find out the lawyer was none other than Leon.
“You’re my lawyer?” Zoya blurted out, her eyes wide in surprise.
“Yeah,” Leon replied with a nod. “Harvey already gave me the rundown on what you’re asking for. It’s really no big deal.”
But the thing was, Leon was one of Ranard City’s top guns-he was the guy everyone called when big shots were in trouble. Zoya’s case? Honestly, it was so minor, just a standard lawyer could handle it.
Having Leon take this on felt like bringing a bazooka to a snowball fight.
“But your fees are seriously out of my league. Maybe you could just have someone else from your firm help me out?” Zoya said.
“Harvey gave special instructions-don’t worry about the fees. I’ll just bill you like any regular lawyer,” Leon
said.
“I feel kind of embarrassed accepting this…” Zoya admitted, a little uneasy.
“Just see it as the Hoyles family paying you back. You really looked out for Harvey when he was in the army, and that meant a lot. Honestly, if I handed this off to another lawyer, he’d totally be on my case about it,” Leon said with a friendly chuckle.
With Leon saying all that, Zoya couldn’t find any reason to refuse anymore. “Alright, thanks,” Zoya replied.
After they’d settled everything, Zoya was just about to leave when Leon suddenly asked, “You and Eowyn are pretty close, right? Did she ever mention why she broke up with me all those years ago?”
‘Eowyn used to be crazy about me. Would she really break up over something as random as me making an offhand comment to a buddy?’ Leon wondered, still trying to figure it out.
Zoya blinked, a little thrown by the sudden question.
