Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 198

Chapter 198

“Then I’ll stay by your side. If anyone tries to get in our way, I’ll just deal with them,” Wren said slowly.

Even though he spoke calmly, there was a dangerous madness flashing in his eyes.

Zoya pressed her lips together. After being with him for this long, she almost forgot that he was the head of the Richmond family-the most dangerous power in all of Ranard City.

“Let’s go somewhere else,” she said.

“Then let’s just go back to the apartment. I’ve already got everything ready-just waiting on you,” Wren replied.

“The apartment?” Zoya shot him a look, frowning.

“What’s the matter, changed your mind? You just said you’d spend the night with me,” he teased.

“No, let’s go,” she said, striding out of the bar ahead of him.

He followed right behind her.

They hopped in the car and drove to their old place-the apartment they’d once shared.

When Zoya walked in, she immediately noticed the place had been decorated-just like she expected.

Colorful balloons, streamers, and all sorts of birthday party decorations filled the room.

Hanging from the streamers were photo after photo of her and Wren-moments they’d captured together.

Zoya looked at those photos, feeling a strange mix of emotions. In every single picture, she was smiling, eyes shining with happiness.

‘Back then, I would’ve never guessed… I’d end up breaking up with Wren like this,’ Zoya thought, a bitter ache settling in her chest.

While Zoya was lost in her thoughts, Wren walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her from behind. “See? We used to be so happy together, didn’t we? Zozo, there’s no one in this world who could ever love you more than I do. Please… come back to me, will you?”

Zoya snapped back to herself. “We’re already over. If you don’t let go now, I’ll leave right away—and the promise I made to spend your birthday with you will be broken.”

Wren’s eyes dimmed as he slowly released her. “I always thought I was ruthless, but turns out you’re even more ruthless than I am.”

Zoya stepped out of his arms and turned to face him. “It’s over between us. I’m here tonight only because I promised I’d be with you for your birthday. That’s all.”

‘Yes… It’s just keeping him company. That’s all,’ Zoya told herself.

‘It’s just keeping him company, that’s all,’ Zoya reminded herself in her heart.

Back when she found out he’d never celebrated a birthday before, her heart ached for him.

In her memories, every year on her birthday, even when her family couldn’t all be there, they’d send her birthday wishes, mail her gifts, and show her nothing but love.

But him—no matter how much it looked like he had it all, he’d never even gotten a real birthday.

That was why she came here tonight-to finally put a real end to what they had.

“Come help me with the candles,” Wren called out, heading to the table where a birthday cake sat, waiting for

them.

He grabbed a handful of candles, stuck them into the cake one by one, and sparked each to life with his lighter.

The candle flames danced and cast a gentle glow across the room.

Wren closed his eyes, pressing his palms together like he was making a secret wish, lost for a few seconds in his own world.

After a beat, he opened his eyes, blew out the candles, and gave Zoya a look. “Aren’t you curious what I wished for just now?”

“Whatever you wish for now, it doesn’t concern me anymore,” Zoya said firmly.

“Doesn’t concern you?” Wren echoed, grabbing the cake knife and slicing off a piece. He placed it on a plate and looked at her. “But my birthday wish was all about you. I wished for us to stay safe every year, for you to hold my hand until we’re old together. Wasn’t that what you wanted too, back when you picked out that birthday gift for me?”

“That was then. I can’t be with you now…” Zoya replied, her voice trailing off, pain flickering in her eyes.

“Why can’t you?” Wren interrupted, picking up the plate of cake and coming toward her. “You said you stopped trusting me because I kept secrets. Fine-let’s start fresh. I’ll prove myself and win your trust back, step by step.”

“Your brother is still missing because I shut you out before. I promise, I’ll keep helping you search for him- no matter what,” he added, his voice low with regret.

“The Richmond family has its own intel network overseas-even in Dracorialand. I know you can tap into the military’s connections too, but if we combine forces, won’t we find him faster?” Wren said, steady and determined.

“Zozo, as long as you don’t talk about breaking up again, you can use everything-the resources, the connections, the influence of the Richmond family. However long it takes, I’ll help you find your brother,” Wren promised, locking eyes with her.

He kept talking, finally stopping right in front of her and offering the plate of cake.

“Can we… just not break up? Please?” he asked, his voice getting all gentle, almost begging now.

“No way,” Zoya shot back without a second thought. “We’re done. Trust isn’t something you can glue back together just by saying a few words. I don’t want to live every day wondering if what you tell me is true or just

another lie.

“And whenever I see you, all I can think about is my brother from that video. I keep telling myself I can’t blame you, that it wasn’t ever your responsibility to save him, but…”

Her nose tingled, and her voice trembled as she whispered, “But I just can’t do it!”

“Then blame me, resent me-even if you end up hating me, it’s fine. Just… don’t walk away from me,” Wren said, his voice shaky, desperation clear in his eyes.

“If that’s what it comes to, then what’s the point of us being together?” Zoya shot back. She tried to keep her voice cool, but it sounded hollow even to herself. “You’re just struggling to accept it right now. Give it some time-once you finally move on, it’ll all be fine.”
