Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 356

“So what’s next?” Amelia bent forward a little, resignation in her posture. “Let me guess—your next line is, ‘Let’s not get divorced after all,’ right?”

Daniel sniffled, his voice unsteady. “I really don’t want to split up.”

She let him clutch her hand, falling silent for a moment before speaking. “Daniel, maybe it’s time to let each other go. For both our sakes.”

Suddenly, Daniel lashed out—not with words, but by biting her hand, more like a sulking puppy than a grown man. He didn’t bite hard, just enough to leave a faint mark, as if he needed her to pay attention.

“Let go, let go, let go! Everyone wants me to let go—am I running a therapy group or something?” His voice trembled, but he tried to sound tough. “Well, I’m not letting go. I’m staying right here, for the rest of my life, if that’s what it takes!”

Amelia stood up and kicked him in the shin. “Get over yourself!”

She slammed the front door on her way out. Daniel tried to chase after her, but dizziness overtook him and he collapsed back onto the couch. All he could do was stare at the closed door with a pitiful look. “You could at least throw a blanket over me before you go…”

There wasn’t a blanket within reach, but there was a tasseled pillow. He grabbed it, hugging it tightly, imagining it was her. Muttering, he complained to the empty room, “That bespectacled jerk was up to no good—told me you had depression just to push for this divorce.”

“And you’re no saint either,” he went on, grumbling to himself. “Every time we meet, it’s always divorce this, divorce that. What, did the civil office give you a divorce quota to fill?”

His rambling complaints kept tumbling out, scattered and unfiltered, until eventually he talked himself into exhaustion. As he turned over to sleep, the tassel on the pillow got caught under his arm. Quick to react, he freed it and patted the pillow gently. “Sorry, sorry, squished your hair again. Be good, I’ll be careful next time.”

...

By the time Amelia finally got home, it was nearly one in the morning. She barely managed a shower before collapsing into bed.

The next morning, her eyes were swollen from lack of sleep. Robert, surprisingly, looked perfectly fine.

“Thanks for yesterday,” he said.

Amelia waved it off. “No, I should be the one apologizing. You were just helping me out.”

The moment Redland’s top-tier clients arrived, a ripple of excitement swept through the venue. Everyone knew the legend: “He who wears that signature scarf is the richest man in the world.” The director all but saw stacks of gold walking in and hurriedly dispatched staff to welcome them.

The expo wasn’t just international; plenty of domestic companies had come too. Robert said, “I’ll handle the Redland delegation—I know a little Arabic. You focus on the local companies.”

With that, they split up. Robert strode off toward the Redland executives, their hands glittering with gemstones.

Meanwhile, Amelia fielded wave after wave of guests, explaining exhibits and answering questions—so busy she barely had time for a sip of water.

Finally, just before noon, she managed to snatch a quick drink. Right then, a colleague bumped her elbow. “Hey, check out that guy—total heartthrob.”

Amelia took a swig. “With how swamped we are, you still have time to scout for eye candy? I’m impressed.”

Her coworker grinned. “This job is brutal. If I don’t treat myself to some handsome faces, I might not survive the next five days. I’ve been watching all morning, and he’s the only one worth the trouble. Just look at that face, those shoulders, those legs—oh, wait, he’s coming this way!”
