Violet froze, her mind blank for a split second before the shock gave way to a furious outburst. “That bastard Samuel—how dare he double-cross me!”
The man crouched down and seized her shoulders, yanking her face up to his. “With a face this pretty, it’s no wonder Daniel’s obsessed with you. Mr. Wilson said to ruin Daniel’s woman before sending her back to him. But don’t be scared, sweetheart—I’m not an animal. Behave, and I won’t mess you up too badly.”
Now Violet understood. Samuel—this monster—wanted revenge. He wasn’t just out to destroy Daniel; he was going to violate the one person Daniel loved most, make him suffer for a lifetime. She never should’ve worked with Samuel. What did she expect, teaming up with a snake and hoping not to get bitten?
Regret twisted in her gut, but there was no time for remorse. The man was already tearing her blouse, exposing her bare shoulder.
Suddenly, the sound of a car engine grew louder outside. Someone was coming.
The man’s face paled. He yanked up his zipper in a panic and bolted for the back door.
Violet’s strength deserted her. She slid down the wall, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Moments later, Mogan burst in, his expression darkening when he saw Violet crumpled on the floor. He quickly shrugged off his jacket and wrapped it around her.
Violet sobbed even harder. “It—it was Samuel, that monster… He wants to ruin Daniel, and now me… We’ve both been played…”
…
Samuel was jolted awake by the shrill ringing of his phone. Groggy, he tried to rub his head, but a searing pain shot through his hand.
He looked down. His left hand was a mangled mess, all five fingers slashed open, agony radiating straight to the bone.
The phone kept shrieking, relentless and urgent.
“Mr. Wilson, where are you? If you don’t get here now, we’re not leaving! The coast guard’s all over the place—if you don’t get out tonight, you’re not getting out at all!”
Cradling his ruined hand, Samuel grit his teeth. “I’m on my way!”

“Who gave you the guts to touch Violet?”
Samuel’s mouth opened, desperate to speak, but he couldn’t force out a word through the pain.
Mogan lost control. The knife rose and fell again and again, blood splattering the deck.
Eventually, Samuel collapsed onto the heap of dead fish, his strength gone.
As his eyes slid shut, flashes of memory raced through his mind. In that final moment, he understood—the shadowy mastermind behind it all.
They’d all been played.
Blood bubbling on his lips, Samuel managed to whisper, “It wasn’t… me…”

How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
