Chapter 138: _ A Special Vampire

Chapter 137

Aceco’s brow furrowed in concern after Rhett said he needed her take. "What troubles you, Rhett?" she asked with a gentle voice. "Tell me, what is it you wished to speak of?"

Rhett hesitated, his gaze flickering around the moonlit clearing. Finally, he met Aceco’s eyes with a deep sigh escaping his lips. "I need you to be unbiased, Aceco. But I know that’s very possible since the fey don’t lie." A wry smile touched his lips. "That’s precisely why I’m confiding in you."

Aceco fluttered her wings like a reassuring gesture for Rhett. "Speak what’s in your heart, Rhett. Remember, I am a fairy, and truth is the very essence of my being. There’s no bias in the heart of a fairy."

Rhett nodded and his jaw tightened. "That’s exactly why I’m confiding in you," He admitted. "What I’m about to say goes against everything we know about the fey being peaceful creatures. And what Cora just did only reinforces that."

Aceco’s antennae twitched. "What do you mean?"

"I investigated the wolf boy, Liam, whom Cora claimed was with Reed," Rhett explained. "His story...well, it paints a very different picture."

"Different how?" Aceco’s voice held a hint of apprehension.

"Liam claims Reed lured him into the woods, and tried to kill him," Rhett said. "He escaped only after hearing the cries of another wolf child and— Cora’s voice."

Aceco gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "T-that’s impossible! The Fey wouldn’t harm anyone, let alone a child! Spilling blood is forbidden!"

Rhett ran a hand through his hair, frustration etched on his face. "I know, that’s what makes it so unbelievable. But the boy... he’s too young to fabricate such a tale."

Aceco fluttered around him, her brow furrowed in deep concentration. This revelation shook her understanding of the Fey. They were creatures of peace, bound by ancient laws that forbade violence. Yet, here was a wolf

child claiming the opposite.

This was unlike anything she had encountered before. A fey creature, known for its peaceful nature, accused of attempted murder? It defied everything she knew.

"We need to know the truth," Aceco declared. "Bring this Liam to me. I can use my magic to discern if he speaks the truth. My magic cannot be deceived. But, I assure you that there was no trace of deception on Cora after her confession earlier. Perhaps, they had both gotten it mixed up somewhere, but I’ll know when I see the boy."

A little ounce of relief washed over Rhett.

Aceco, with her fairy magic, could be the key to unraveling this mystery and winning this war. "I’ll bring Liam to you as soon as possible," he promised.

Rhett, guided by the faint light of the approaching dawn, finally reached Aceco’s hidden haven and gently deposited her back in her secluded home.

"Thank you, Rhett," Aceco said, her voice filled with gratitude. "Find this Liam, and we shall get to the bottom of this mystery."

Rhett nodded. "I will."

They exchanged farewells, and Rhett turned, heading back towards the dark pack.

The city was just beginning to stir as Rhett entered the station. The events of the night chewed at him, leaving him physically and emotionally drained.

As he entered the precinct, the somber mood was palpable. The death of the soldiers and losses had weighed everyone down.

The few soldiers on duty, now changed into neat uniforms, saluted him sharply as he passed. Rhett acknowledged their greetings with a tired nod.
