Isleen didn’t seem keen on taking Fergus seriously, as usual. Even when he’d been disguised as Liam, she ignored all his slip-ups and clues of his true nature, taking it as just the actions of a child. Her undying trust in people would be her downfall.
Fergus realized that Kylo wasn’t with Isleen, but that wouldn’t be a problem. Everything was going smoothly so far, just as it’d always been.
Isleen and Fergus had a little more back-and-forth throwing of words, Fergus doing an excellent job mimicking Cullen’s mannerisms.
Soon, however, Lupe also rushed down the stairs, looking flushed and too suspicious for Fergus’s liking. He spotted the growing suspicion in Isleen’s gaze, her eyes moving from him to Lupe. But eventually, she let it go, not asking any questions.
Perfecto.
Fergus couldn’t help grinning to himself. He’d slept with Isleen’s friend and got away with it. And soon enough, the girl would be tomorrow’s story.
Now, Fergus had one more goal for today. He needed to rebuild the trust between ’Cullen’– AKA himself – and Isleen, which he was sure had been demolished after the foolish Cullen went after his so-called friend’s ex behind her back.
The more he thought about it, the more he despised the wolves for pretending to be holier than vampires when they were just as capable of committing various atrocities. Fergus believed every race on the planet– from the greedy uninteresting humans to the angelic holy fey– were capable of giving in to the darkness inside them. They just needed a little push...a little nudge to show them the other side of the black-and-white lines in their minds.
He had seen it firsthand during his centuries of frolicking and blending in with every race, supernatural and human.
Lupe asked Isleen how the search for Liam went, and the latter only sighed, saying the Gamma had promised to find him. Fergus sniggered to himself.
These poor fools. Liam was gone. Forever. It was becoming harder for Fergus to keep that information to himself, instead of rubbing it on their faces. He could only imagine their reactions when they finally found out. When he finally revealed his true nature.
After much consideration, Fergus decided to tease knowing about Isleen’s forbidden romance with her ’mate’. He didn’t exactly say it was Rhett, but the fact that he knew something was enough to make Isleen panic and almost reveal his identity.
It was something Fergus had known for a while, but Cullen on the other hand, was outside the loop. Which made Isleen’s shock of him knowing valid.
Fergus wanted Isleen to confide in him about her relationship. It was all a part of his plan...
Eventually, Isleen got a call after Fergus promised to cook something with Lupe. Even though he was in the kitchen, he was able to pick up some parts of the conversation from the call.
Oh la, la.
It seemed Isleen was going out to see her mate. The girl had actually taken his advice. After taking the call, Isleen went upstairs, preparing to have her bath.
