Cullen laughed louder, drawing the curious stares of people walking by. Hastily, Kylo shoved his arm off his shoulder, glaring at him.
"What the heck is wrong with you dude?" Kylo’s voice came out as a whisper, his eyes darting around nervously.
Walking around with Cullen had always proved to be a daunting chore. He was so out and carefree, not caring about what people would think. But Kylo wasn’t that way at all.
Years of keeping his relationship with Isleen a secret had taught him that people would always have something to say, no matter how good a person was. He wasn’t sure he was ready to ’explore’ this side of his sexuality yet, especially not with someone like Cullen.
Probably noticing his apprehension, Cullen gave him a light push on the shoulder before speaking casually. "Oh, relax. To these people, we’re just two bros hanging out. You’re the only one giving it a deeper meaning."
Kylo only grunted in reply as they kept on walking. He would’ve loved to be left alone in his thoughts, but Cullen didn’t make that possible.
"Hey, you know we need to stick together at the camp, right? So, let’s try getting to know each other more." A smile crept on his face as he spoke, managing to give Kylo the creeps.
He glanced awkwardly at him before replying. "No thanks. I think I’ve ’gotten to know you’ far enough at this point."
Cullen didn’t take his words well and tried arguing with him. Kylo ignored him mostly until they finally reached outside the station.
There was already a crowd of people— all men of different ages—gathered there, talking and intermingling. Wolves, fairies, and elves were present in this orientation, though the fey made up only a small number of those present.
The two young men exchanged glances with each other before joining the crowd. Once they’d gotten into the crowd, Kylo tried getting an idea of what was happening.
"Excuse me." He tapped on a werewolf who looked like he was in his early forties. When the man turned to him, he went further with his question. "Good morning, sir. Please, do you have an idea of what’s going on? Why’re all the enlisters gathered here?"
The man squinted his eyes, looking at him suspiciously. But then realization dawned on his face as he nearly exclaimed. "Well, if it isn’t the Gamma’s son. How’s it been going with you?"
Kylo tried being polite with the man, smiling before he replied. "I’ve been fine, thanks."
After saying that, he pressed on with his previous question. The man nodded his head and explained.
"The Beta and Gamma said we should all wait here for them. There are still a few more finishing touches being made to our training camp." The man replied calmly.
Kylo frowned, as a thought crossed his mind. "But, I thought we’d be commencing training right here in the precinct?"
The man looked at him amusingly, but eventually shook his head. He answered his question patiently nonetheless. "And disrupt the normal activities of the officers? Nah, we need another space for our training. Probably a bigger space."
He nodded his understanding and thanked the man again.
Now he couldn’t help contemplating everything he’d learned so far. He tried to guess where the space for the training camp could be, but that was beyond him. He needed to gather more information, but he decided to wait for his father and the Beta to do that themselves.
Speaking of which, the annoying Beta was far more annoying than Kylo had imagined. Annoying and corrupt. Not a good combo when you’re a leader of a pack such as Raven Wood. His encounter with him during the screening for the enlistment had told him enough.
He knew the man would prove to be a pain in the ass throughout his stay here, but he’d have to learn how to tolerate him.
