"But... But what could all this mean? What path does the moon goddess have for me? For us?" I rubbed my temples, lost as it was. So much for following a ’path’.
"I’m not entirely sure yet, but I’ll seek Aceco’s guidance. The moon goddess has been reluctant to give me more details during our meetings in my dreams. Maybe she wants me to find the path on my own."
I could only nod in reply, fiddling with my dress nervously. This was all a lot to take in. Rhett was the chosen one and I was his mate bestowed with a special ability that could change the tide of the war.
My life was turning out to be more and more like a movie each day.
"I have to report to the Alpha soon." Rhett suddenly uttered, getting up with a sigh.
"About what? Is everything okay?" I asked, my eyes narrowing with curiosity and worry. As always, he looked really tired but right now he seemed even more exhausted than usual.
"It’s nothing you have to worry your pretty little head about." He replied with a smug smirk before walking up to me and kissing me on the cheek. "Let’s go, I need to revise some documents with the military advisor for a few minutes then we can talk a bit outside the precinct."
I nodded, my face still flushed from the peck. It was so little but yet it made my heart dance. My wolf jumped Inside me like an excited puppy.
After Rhett picked up a coat, I also got up, and we both walked out of the office. I waited outside the door as I watched him heading to the military advisor’s office.
The precinct was rowdy as usual, but there were barely any cases of criminals or lawbreakers as it seemed. Instead, the soldiers all looked like they were preparing themselves and planning for something.
My heart shuddered at the thought. War...
"Earth to Isleen." Rhett’s voice took me out of my thoughts. I blinked rapidly, swerving my head quickly to him. "You seemed really troubled. What are you worrying that pretty little head of yours about this time?"
He’d come back from his meeting with the military advisor so fast but I hadn’t noticed because of my thoughts. Could war already be coming to us again so soon?
"Shall we?" He suddenly motioned towards the station’s exit door, a broad smile on his face. He stretched out his palm suggestively at first, but then quickly withdrew it when he noticed the nervous look on my face.
I managed to smile at him before we both walked out of the building, moving side by side.
"The military, Rhett. Are you guys going to war soon?" I asked with a whisper. I’d thought the battle wouldn’t take place until after the one-month training with Kylo and the others.
We’d reached outside the station when he turned to face me. "We’re making preparations, both in the precinct and back at the camp. Yes, the plan is to flank the vampires in their main base alongside the rest of the human and fey armies after we’ve trained the enlisters for a month. But, before that, we’ll be sending them on missions alongside the pack’s soldiers to several territories around our pack where the vampires’ influence is at its highest. Most of the vampires who’ve been coming to attack us have been attacking us from these territories. So... We’ll take the attack to them instead."
He said a lot of things at once, but I was able to understand most of it. These were dire times indeed. What touched me the most, however, was the fact that he shared all this with me.
"Aren’t these like, confidential secrets for the military? Why are you telling me just because I asked?" I scratched my head awkwardly.
